Abstract:
A method for making a smokeless tobacco article can include combining thermoplastic polymer particles with tobacco particles to form a mixture of particles, compressing the mixture of particles within a pressing apparatus to form the mixture into a predetermined shape, separating the mixture from the pressing apparatus such that it retains the predetermined shape, and heating the mixture outside of the pressing apparatus to at least partially melt at least some of the thermoplastic polymer particles and form a matrix of polymer and tobacco particles.
Abstract:
3D printable ink compositions for forming objects, films and coatings are provided. Also provided are methods of printing the ink compositions and methods for making the ink compositions. The ink compositions include an elastic polymer binder and may have high loadings of solid particles.
Abstract:
A method for improving the throughput of solid-state shear pulverization and solid-state melt-extrusion devices may include the addition of a heat absorbing material with a mixture of polymeric materials in an extruder. The extruder may include one or more extrusion screws. One or more portions of the one or more extrusion screws, one or more barrel sections, and/or one or more extruder work zones may be temperature controlled to maintain a temperature of the polymeric mixture in contact therewith at or below the liquefication temperature of the polymeric materials. The liquefication temperature may be a melting point of a semi-crystalline polymer or a glass transition temperature of an amorphous polymer.
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing a composite product with spent coffee grounds, having steps of: acquiring spent coffee grounds; pre-drying the spent coffee grounds; drying the spent grounds that have been pre-dried, to form base material; organizing the base material by size; forming base products from the base material, including a resin product and a hardener product; forming a mixed product from the base products; and forming a final product from the mixed product, wherein the final product is the composite product.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for developing a composite material are disclosed. The system can include a plurality of particles and a plurality of polymers. The plurality of particles can generate mechanical force in response to changing relative humidity, and the plurality of filaments can transfer the mechanical force throughout the composite material, such that the mechanical force changes a shape of the composite material reversibly and repeatedly.
Abstract:
A product capable of controlling odors arising from organic matter, and a method of making the product. The product comprises an admixture of a moldable thermoplastic and a benign dormant bacteria in a sporulated form, which admixture is formed by mixing the benign dormant bacteria into the moldable thermoplastic when the moldable thermoplastic is melted, and molding the admixture into a molded product. The benign dormant bacteria are embedded throughout the molded product, including being buried within a body of the molded product and being presented on a surface of the molded product. The benign dormant bacteria presented on the surface of the molded product are activatable upon exposure of the surface of the molded product to the organic matter, and the benign activated bacteria digest the organic matter to control production of offensive odors. Abrasive wear of the surface of the molded product exposes fresh benign dormant bacteria buried in the body to the surface for additional odor control.
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing a biodegradable dry cleaning bag is disclosed, the method including loading an environmentally friendly slurry into a hopper, extruding the environmentally friendly slurry, passing the environmentally friendly slurry through a die, inflating the environmentally friendly slurry into a cylindrical shape, thereby creating a cylindrical member, passing the cylindrical member over a first roller, and rolling the cylindrical member onto a roll.
Abstract:
Disclosed are filament winding processes that use a low viscosity polyurethane-forming composition, systems for making a composites and the composites so made.

Abstract:
Provided is a friction material composition comprising: a binder; a fibrous base material; an abrasive material; an inorganic filler; and an organic filler, wherein the friction material composition further comprises: at least one selected from the group consisting of zinc, a cellulose fiber as the fibrous base materials and a flame retardant fiber as the fibrous base materials; an iron-based fiber as the fibrous base material in an specified amount; and an inorganic abrasive material having a Mohs hardness of 8 or higher and a particle size of 1 μm or larger as the abrasive material in an amount of 1 wt % or less. The present invention can provide a friction material composition which is less destructive to facing materials compared to conventional products, which has a high friction coefficient upon braking when used in repeated braking during high-speed traveling, and which is capable of suppressing pad wear and uneven pad wear, in the case that the friction material composition is formed into a brake pad for passenger cars. The present invention can also provide a friction material and a friction member using this friction material composition.
