The present invention relates generally to methods of synthesis of diterpene heterocylic compounds. More particularly, the present invention relates to efficient methods of synthesis of ingenol (Formula (21), CAS 30220-46-3), from a compound of formula (1). The present invention also provides for various advantageous intermediates along the synthetic route of ingenol. Efficient synthesis of ingenol is important in the design and synthesis of related analogues, such as ingenol-3-angelate.

A process conducts organic reactions in a standalone laboratory scale solar photo thermo chemical reactor. For organic reactions require elevated temperature, light and mechanical agitation, all three energy forms can be simultaneously derived from solar radiation. Organic synthesis, such as bromination of toluene derivatives (benzylic bromination), bromination of cyclic acyclic hydrocarbon and oxidative cyclization of N-phenylethyl benzamide through bromination were successfully conducted in such reactors.

Novel emulsions of non-aromatizable perfluorinated compounds are useful as blood substitutes or as perfusion materials for the storage of organs such as kidneys prior to transplant. The compounds employed are polycyclic compounds and emulsions prepared from the perfluorinated derivatives thereof possess extremely high stability, zero or extremely low ultimate residue in the body, and a vapor pressure which is just about right for use in the body without adverse effects thereon.
