A terminal-modified polymer is manufactured by performing a polymerization reaction of a vinyl aromatic monomer, a conjugated diene monomer or both in the presence of an anionic polymerization initiator: and then adding an alkoxy aluminum compound thereinto to terminate the polymerization reaction. Alternatively, a terminal-modified polymer can also be manufactured by adding an aluminum halide compound instead of the alkoxy aluminum compound to terminate the polymerization reaction, and allowing for a reaction with a lower alcohol having 1 to 4 carbon atoms. The resulting terminal-modified polymer can improve the dispersibility of silica used as a compounding agent in rubber compositions for automobile pneumatic tires and the like.

A butadiene-type polymer suitable for use as a processing aid in a rubber composition is formed by polymerizing butadiene or other conjugated diene monomers in a solvent, such as hexane, to form a polymer of relatively low molecular weight (around 30-40,000 g/mole). The polymer is coupled with a coupling agent, such as tin tetrachloride, to increase its molecular weight to a level at which conventional desolventizing processes may be used to remove the solvent from the mix. After desolventizing, the polymer is decoupled, by heating, to return the polymer to its original molecular weight.

The invention relates to ferrocenyldiphosphine ligands containing a silylene group, ferrocenyldiphosphines bound to inorganic or polymeric organic supports by this silylene group, their preparation and also their metal complexes with transition metals such as rhodium or iridium. The invention also relates to the use of these complexes for hydrogenating organic double or triple bonds, in particular olefinic double bonds and carbon-heteroatom double bonds. The complexes are particularly suitable for enantioselective hydrogenation using chiral diphosphines and prochiral unsaturated compounds.The preparation of these immobilized ferrocenyldiphosphines has only been made possible by the provision of correspondingly functionalized ferrocenyldiphosphines. Polymers containing organotin compounds having advantageous use as paint binders obtained by reacting a cyclized rubber with organotin compounds of the formula R.sub.3 --Sn--O--Z wherein R represents a hydrocarbon group from 1 to 15 carbon atoms and Z is a phenolate group derived from a phenolic compound having from 6 to 15 carbon atoms. In marine applications paints incorporating such polymers remain un-fouled after extended use and are self-polishing. Such polymers are obtained by reacting cyclized rubber and an organotin compound at an elevated temperature in an inert solvent.
