    摘要: An aqueous dispersion is provided which comprises water, a dispersant and a linear or branched chain saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon. The dispersant is of the general formula ##STR1## wherein R and R.sub.1 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 alkyl; R.sub.2 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and a C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl group; x is about 8 to about 112 and y is about 1 to about 1,370. The aliphatic hydrocarbon is either linear or branched chain and has a molecular weight of from about 300 to about 5,000. Such dispersions have particular applicability in water based inks and overprint varnishes.

    摘要: A wax composition contains a water-dispersible polyethylene wax and an amount (1-25% or more specifically 6-12% by weight on the composition) sufficient to inhibit changes in viscosity normally exhibited by the wax of a primary aliphatic saturated or unsaturated monohydric alcohol containing 4 to 20 carbon atoms, e.g. cetyl, stearyl, or oleyl alcohol or 2,2-dimethyltetradecanol. The wax may have a M.W. of 1000 to 6000, a density of 0.90 to 0.97, a ring-and-ball softening point of 90-112 DEG C., and an acid number of 4 to 25. In Example 7, stearyl alcohol is added to a degraded non-dispersible polyethylene wax prior to oxidation at 150 DEG C. with oxygen.

A process is also described for improving the mobility of formed metal surfaces and reducing the metal exposure rating of the surfaces which subsequently are coated with a siccative coating.

    摘要: Functionalized copolymers of isoolefins and conjugated diolefins, methods of preparing said copolymers, and their use as compatibilizers are disclosed. The diolefin monomer units of the co-polymer are modified at the C—C double bond along the backbone of the copolymer to include an oxygen containing functional group such as epoxide, ester or alcohol. The functionalized copolymers improve the wettabilty of a non-hydrophilic surface towards hydrophilic polymer and allows for the formation of homogenous layers of the hydrophilic polymers. In particular, the spreading of a hydrophilic polymer on a non-hydrophilic substrate is facilitated by applying the co-polymers as an interfacial layer between the two incompatible materials. The resulting coated substrates exhibit resistance to protein adsorption and cell growth after grafting. The co-polymers are especially suited in the coating of biomedical devices where a high degree of uniformity of the coated surface is required.
