Abstract: Compositions, tools and methods for the manufacture of construction materials, masonry, solid structures and compositions to facilitate dust control are described. Compositions and methods for the manufacture of pigmented solids structures for which can be used for construction and/or decoration are also described. Manufacturing comprises fixing one or more pigments to an aggregate material such as crushed rock, stone or sand. The pigmented aggregate is incubated with urease or urease producing microorganisms, an amount of a nitrogen source such as urea, and an amount of calcium source such as calcium chloride forming calcite bridges between particles of aggregate. Using selected aggregate and pigment, the process also provides for the manufacture of simulated-stone materials such as clay or granite bricks or blocks, marble counter-tops, and more. Compositions containing microorganisms and pigment as kits that can be added to most any aggregate materials are also described.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure describe methods and systems using a hydride-forming Group VI transition metal chalcogenide catalyst, such as MoSx, for selective electrocatalysis of enzyme cofactor regeneration. In particular, a method of electrochemical cofactor regeneration comprising: holding an electrode comprising a Group VI transition metal chalcogenide catalyst at a potential sufficient to form a metal hydride in an aqueous electrolyte solution; and contacting the electrode with an oxidized cofactor to reduce the cofactor, is provided. The reduced cofactor can be used by a cofactor-dependent oxidoreductase to convert a substrate to a desired product and subsequently regenerated.

Abstract: A method of preparing metal nanoparticles using a fungal extract includes providing an aqueous solution including a metal salt; and combining the fungal extract with the aqueous metal salt solution to produce the metal nanoparticles. The fungal extract can be an aqueous extract of the manglicolous fungi The metal salt can be copper sulfate (CuSO4) and the metal nanoparticles can be copper nanoparticles. The metal nanoparticles can have a mean diameter in the range of from about 5 nm to about 100 nm. The copper nanoparticles can be used as an antimicrobial agent.

Abstract: The present invention refers to an industrial process for obtaining an agricultural composition formed by association of one or more species of Bacillus spp., of Lactobacillus spp. and of Pseudomonas, the process for induction of exudates/metabolites, as well as the application thereof in the manufacture and in the increase of the efficiency of phosphate fertilizers of mineral, organomineral and organic origin. Surprisingly, the agricultural composition used in the fertilization industry increases the availability of macro and micronutrients to the plants with agricultural interest, such as soy and corn. Finally, both the use of the agricultural composition in the fertilizers industry as the application of the product in the field potentialize the greater availability of essential nutrients for the development of the cultures.

Abstract: A system and method for the production of microbial consortiums and by-product material is provided. A physical containment system comprising phase spaces arranged in a discrete order to favor specific biological reactions is also provided. Phase profiles and phase data sets include the pre-determined physical and biological parameters for the phase space transitions. Movement of material from one phase to the next is hydraulically balanced enabling working fluid to continuously move in a fixed direction and rate of flow. Continuous monitoring of phase profiles and phase data sets provide feedback to the system enabling alteration of the conditions in the system to control reactions therein.

Abstract: Materials such as biomass (e.g., plant biomass, animal biomass, and municipal waste biomass) and hydrocarbon-containing materials are processed to produce useful products, such as fuels. For example, systems are described that can use feedstock materials, such as cellulosic and/or lignocellulosic materials and/or starchy materials, or oil sands, oil shale, tar sands, bitumen, and coal to produce altered materials such as fuels (e.g., ethanol and/or butanol). The processing includes exposing the materials to an ion beam.
