摘要: A shift gate for a sliding cam system may include at least two shift grooves for engagement of at least one actuator pin. The two shift grooves run against a direction of rotation and transform from a first inlet portion for the actuator pin into a second outlet portion for the actuator pin. The two shift grooves cross one another in an intersection region between the two portions. In the intersection region, the two shift grooves each have a maximum axial shift stroke that is greater than half a total axial shift stroke, in particular a slide travel, of the shift gate.

摘要: A variable valve apparatus for an internal combustion engine according to the present invention comprises a cam base member rotating with rotation of a camshaft and a cam lobe member. The cam lobe member is movable to the cam base member, between a projecting position where the cam part radially projects and a retreat position where the cam part is retreated. A resilient member urges the cam lobe member toward the projecting position. A movement control apparatus includes a drive member provided for driving the cam lobe member, and the drive member is fixed to the cam lobe member. When the cam lobe member is in a non-fixing state to the cam base member, the cam lobe member is moved from the projecting position to the retreat position with the drive member being pressed.

摘要: A valve train may include a camshaft, a cam follower, and first and second cams mounted axially adjacent in a torque-proof manner on the camshaft. The valve train may also include an adjustment arrangement having adjustable first and second mechanical engagement elements, which may each cooperate with at least one slide guide arranged on the camshaft. The valve train may further include a control shaft or control slide forming a stop for the first and second engagement elements and adjusting the first and second engagement elements into respective switching positions. The cam follower may be drivingly connected with the first and second cams in first and second positions, respectively. The first and second engagement elements may each be adjustable between respective basic positions, in which no contact exists with the associated slide guide, and the respective switching positions, in which the respective engagement element cooperates with the associated slide guide.

摘要: This invention relates generally to a camshaft having dual independent banks of cam lobes which are azimuthally adjustable one with respect to the other over a small angle so as to allow separate control of intake and exhaust valve opening and closing events. Such a coaxial camshaft allows relative changes in the lobe centerline angle, or LCA, to vary the amount of valve overlap during operation. An outer shaft member containing one bank of cam lobes houses an inner shaft containing another bank of cam lobes which protrude and extend radially outward through windows of omitted material in the outer shaft. The concentric shafts containing banks of cam lobes are each a single piece being produced in their final shapes, simultaneously, by metal additive manufacturing, or MAM. The shafts being initially produced concentrically require no individual assembly operation, and are constrained by one another, inextricably bound in the assembled configuration upon their being formed. Furthermore, as exemplified in the invention, the requisite spacing between the inner and outer shafts of the coaxial camshaft may be preserved free of metal by the pre-placement of barrier material, or by placement of a non-metal interlayer during manufacture, as exemplified herein which may subsequently be disintegrated by industrial ultrasonic process to facilitate its removal. In either case, the small annular space having been formed maintains the radial alignment between the inner and outer shafts to within acceptable tolerance, and allows the flow of lubricating oil within the space during operation. Such a camshaft with the addition of a separate cam phasing mechanism may beneficially be fitted to engine blocks with a single traditional camshaft, which would otherwise be made from a single piece of material, with fixed LCA, thereby allowing older designs to be upgraded with fully universal Variable Valve Timing, or VVT.

摘要: An engine includes a block containing multiple valves, and a camshaft defining multiple cams for rotation about a camshaft axis. A valve lift assembly is operatively associated with a respective one of the cams and a respective one of the valves to transfer motion from the cam to the valve by reciprocal motion of the valve lift assembly along a lift axis. The assembly includes a follower and a follower control mechanism. The follower is disposed in contact with the cam at a contact point that defines a contact path extending along a surface of the cam as the cam rotates about the camshaft axis. The follower is moveable through an adjustment range to change the position of the contact point along the contact path at a given angular position of the cam. The follower control mechanism is operable to control the movement of the follower within the adjustment range.
