    摘要: A drive train for coupling the engine to the wheels of a vehicle has a compact combination of planetary gearing, transfer gearing and fluid pressure controlled clutches and brakes which may be conditioned to realize any of a plurality of operational modes to accommodate to different driving conditions. The available operational modes include ordinary two wheel drive, two wheel overdrive, a conventional four wheel drive action wherein power tends to be equally divided between front and rear axles, and an alternate four wheel drive mode wherein a predetermined division of torque is established between the front and rear axles together with a differential action therebetween. In a preferred form, the drive system may also be conditioned for parking by locking front and rear axles against rotation.

    摘要: This control system is intended for an epicyclic gear train change-speed transmission mechanism comprising at least one main casing and in said casing hydraulic piston-controlled coupling means co-acting with clamping members provided with radial extensions receiving the antagonistic stress from resilient means. This mechanism has said clamping members disposed at unequal intervals along their periphery and received in notches formed in the main casing of the change-speed transmission mechanism, whereby the resultant of the efforts exerted by said resilient means is applied in the direction of the axis of rotation of the planet gear elements and of the coupling means thereof, at right angles to the axis of the shaft controlling the hydraulic gear-shift means lying at the lower portion of the main casing of the change-speed transmission mechanism. This control system and transmission mechanism are applicable to advantage mainly to motor vehicles transmissions, and more particularly to transverse-mounted power and transmission units.

    摘要: An automatic transmission providing variable speed ratio and reverse drives between drive and driven shafts and including friction-engaging devices, in the form of friction clutches and brakes, for establishing the drives. The devices are operable by hydraulic servomotors, certain servomotors each having first and second pistons arranged in tandem, with the first piston being movable by hydraulic fluid to engage the associated friction device, the second piston being movable by hydraulic fluid to also move the first piston during the application of hydraulic fluid to the first piston to thereby substantially double the effective area of the pistons of the servomotor to provide additional increased pressure to the engaged friction device. The transmission also includes an hydraulic governor fixed to the driven shaft by a locking spring clamp connector positively holding and keying the governor to the shaft in a simple assembly operation and in a manner to insure sealing between fluid-passage ports in the shaft and in the governor body for transfer of activating hydraulic fluid.

    摘要: An automotive transmission with dual planetary gearing includes an input shaft, an output shaft and three intermediate shafts coaxially disposed in a housing, the three intermediate shafts being nested on the input side of the planetary-gear assembly. The middle one of the three nested shafts is rigid with a sleeve carrying two sets of foils which form part of a first brake and a first clutch, respectively, the first brake further including a set of co-operating stationary foils carried on the housing whereas the first clutch additionally comprises a set of coacting movable foils carried on an extension of the input shaft. The latter extension also carries a set of foils forming part of a second clutch further including a set of foils on the innermost nested shaft. The outermost nested shaft and another housing portion also carry interleaved sets of foils forming part of a second brake.

    摘要: The planetary drive structure includes a variable speed transmission by which the drive structure speed is universally variable in both forward and reverse directions. The drive structure also includes selectively engageable power takeoff structure. The variable speed feature of the transmission is effected by means of a sun gear and a ring gear having planet gears positioned therebetween and means for varying the resistance to rotation of the sun gear. The means for varying the resistance to rotation of the sun gear may be hydraulically or electrically energized and includes selectively operable accessory drive structure. The method of the invention includes the step of varying the speed of a hydraulic transmission in planetary drive structure in both forward and reverse directions substantially universally over the range of speeds thereof, selectively actuating accessories through the variable speed transmission and selectively actuating power takeoff means with the planetary drive structure.

    摘要: An overdrive transmission adapted to be coupled as an auxiliary transmission to a conventional change speed transmission of an automobile and comprising planetary gearing having a planet gear carrier connected to and driven by the output shaft of the conventional transmission, a ring gear engaging the planet gears and connected to a tailshift driving the automobile wheels, and a sun gear engaging the planet gears and held by a friction brake to provide the overdrive speed ratio. A double-acting roller clutch device is positioned between the output shaft and tail shaft and controllable to directly connect the shafts in either direction of rotation of the shafts to prevent a freewheeling condition or when the brake is applied to provide the overdrive speed ratio, to provide an overrunning connection between the shafts.
