    摘要: A particle occurrence sensing circuit for microfluidic particle sensing includes a set of particle event indicators, each of which includes: a Coulter counter having a sensing electrode exposable to a fluid within a microfluidic channel and configured for providing a particle sensing signal; an input stage configured for providing an extracted particle sensing signal; and a particle event detector configured for providing a set of particle event occurrence signals. Each of the set of particle event occurrence signals indicates a sensed occurrence of a particle greater than or equal to a given reference particle size during fluid flow through the microfluidic channel to which the sensing electrode is exposed. The particle event detector includes a successive approximation (SA) analog-to-digital converter (ADC) configured for generating a plurality of reference particle size threshold values and successively comparing the extracted particle sensing signal amplitude with reference particle size threshold values.

    摘要: The invention relates to an apparatus for counting particles in a fluid comprising a substrate having a first surface; a lid having a second surface facing the first; at least one spacer element interposed between the substrate and the lid so as to maintain the first and second surface spaced from one another; a partition with a plurality of through-openings having nanometric size, the partition being interposed between the spacer element and the lid so as to define at least one first chamber between the partition and the lid and at least one second chamber between the partition and the substrate, the chambers being fluidically connected with one another through at least one of the openings. According to the invention, the substrate has at least one first electrode on the first surface and the lid has a second electrode, each first electrode being configured so as to detect an electric signal associated to the passage of one of said particles through one of the through-openings of the partition. The invention further relates to a corresponding method for counting particles in a fluid.

    摘要: An electrically operated, particle detecting, or characterizing, sensor structured as a thin film multilayer sandwich. Three or more electrodes are deposited onto thin layers of film, and stacked to form the sandwich. A representative stacking arrangement provides a pair of stimulated electrodes spaced apart from an intermediate measurement electrode by insulating layers of thin film. A fluid conducting channel, having an axis perpendicular to the film layers, provides electrolytic electrical communication between the three electrodes. Contact pads, arranged to permit electrical interrogation of the electrodes by electrical circuitry, are desirably arranged for access to electrical interrogation probes from a single side of the sensor. Certain sensors may be included in single-use, disposable cartridges adapted for analysis by an interrogation platform.

    摘要: An apparatus and a method for analyzing particles suspended in a liquid are described, which particles are of a type or are prepared so as to emit radiation characteristic of the particles when exposed to radiation. Particular fluorescence-photometrical flow cytometry is described in connection with biological cell populations.The apparatus comprises an elongated flow area in the shape of a channel provided in a cuvette comprising a first body member having a planar facial surface and a second body member having a planar facial surface. The first and the second body members are adapted to be moved relative to one another between a first position, in which the planar facial surfaces are in fluid-tight contact with one another, and a second position, in which the planar facial surfaces are spaced apart. At least one of the planar facial surfaces of one of the body members is provided with an elongated groove. In the first position, the first and second body members together define the cuvette in which the elongated flow area is defined by the elongated groove constituting a capillary passage. An inlet for feeding the liquid to the elongated flow area is provided in one of the body members and an outlet for discharging the liquid from the elongated flow area is provided in the very same or in the other body member. At least one of the body members is transparent to light to which the particles are exposed and further transparent to the radiation emitted by the particles. Two electrodes are further described for carrying out an election of particles suspended in the liquid by means of a measurement of the electrical conductivity of the fluid, which particles are of a specific size for subsequent registration of fluorescence when exposed to radiation.
