Abstract: A technique for transmitting data in a copresence environment includes initiating a virtual communication session between a local device and remote devices in a shared copresence environment, where each of the plurality of sending devices are transmitting a sending quality data stream in the virtual communication session. A region of interest for the local device is determined that includes a portion of the copresence environment. The local device subscribes to a first quality data stream for the remote devices represented in the region of interest, and a second quality data stream for the remote devices not represented in the region of interest.

Abstract: Systems, methods and computer program products for high-performance, low latency start-up of large shared media files. A method for low latency startup with low defect playback commences upon identifying a first media file having a first format to be converted to a second media file having a second format. A scheduler divides the first media file into multiple partitions separated by partition boundaries. The method continues by converting the partitions into respective converted partitions that comport with the second format. Determinations as to the position of the partition boundaries is made based on measurable conditions present at a particular moment in time. Different formats receive different treatment based on the combination of characteristics of the first format, characteristics of the second format, as well as on characteristics of measurable conditions present at the moment in time just before conversion of a segment.

Abstract: A multimedia data transmission apparatus and method are provided. In the method, a data receiver receives at least one channel of multimedia data and transmits the received multimedia data to a selector and a data synthesis module. The data transmitting module transmits the converted data to a first processing device and transmits the synthesized data to a second processing device.

Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods for bandwidth reduction through duration averaging. An average duration of content segments can be determined. When the average segment duration exceeds a first threshold or falls below a second threshold, content segments can be encoded at new segment durations until the average segment duration falls below the first threshold and above the second threshold. When the average segment duration exceeds a first threshold or falls below a second threshold, an updated manifest including a modified segment duration parameter can be generated.

Abstract: Methods, systems, computer-readable media, and apparatuses for providing distributed content to a mobile device (e.g., in a mobile vehicle) through multiple content access points along a particular route are presented. In some embodiments, a computing device may receive a selection of media content and a selection of a particular route from a plurality of routes to enable navigation of a mobile vehicle from a start point to an end point calculated based on at least a number of content access points along each route. A computing device may divide the media content into a plurality of segments and send each segment to a respective planned content access point of a plurality of planned content access points along the particular route. In some embodiments, a mobile computing device within a mobile vehicle may receive a segment from each planned content access point to enable continuous uninterrupted playback of the media content.

Abstract: The technology described herein is directed towards an uplink video streaming technology including for private networks that use low-cost mobile devices with reduced hardware capabilities (RedCap in 3GPP). The technology adapts the video quality (bitrate) from the content producer side based on the device capability data of the content consumer, leveraging that both are co-located in the same network. The technology can use machine learning to identify correlated devices with suboptimal video quality, and to propose new uplink data rate limiting data (e.g., PRB quota) for the content provider, to enforce an updated (e.g., reduced) video quality independent of any streaming application. The technology reduces spectrum loss, energy consumption and video rebuffering that otherwise often occur when videos are generated with high quality beyond the capabilities of the video consumers (e.g., including RedCap devices).

Abstract: A method for determining an initial bitrate for a communication includes receiving a communication request to establish a digital communication between a first user device and a second user device associated with a plurality of features including a geographical identifier identifying a geographical location associated with the first user device, a first network type connection associated with the first user device, a second network type connection associated with the second user device, and an average bitrate for a previous digital communication of the first user device. The method includes determining, using an initial bitrate predictor model configured to receive the plurality of features as feature inputs, an initial bitrate for the digital communication between the first user device and the second user device, and establishing the digital communication between the first user device and the second user device at the determined initial bitrate.

Abstract: An illustrative content server system associated with a server domain may transmit, to a client device associated with a client domain, a data stream representing media content. The media content is represented at a first quality level for presentation within a presentation environment as the data stream is transmitted. Based on environment data captured in the client domain to represent real-time conditions of the presentation environment as the media content is presented, the content server system may determine an engagement parameter representing a real-time engagement level of a user with respect to the media content. Based on this engagement parameter, the content server system may adjust, in real time during the transmitting of the data stream and presentation of the media content, the data stream to represent the media content at a second quality level that is different from the first quality level. Corresponding methods and systems are also disclosed.

Abstract: Network assistance is provided for the streaming of data from a user equipment (UE) (14) to an ingestion point (12) in a network. The network assistance may include establishing an uplink network assistance (UNA) session with a network assistance service of the network; while streaming of the data and for each segment of the data or each UNA period of the data, receiving from the network assistance service an indication of a recommended highest bit rate estimate with which the data may be streamed under current network conditions. The UE may adjust content of the data stream in accordance with the indication of the recommended highest bit rate estimation.
