    摘要: A fiber processing system includes a fiber spreader that has a spreader bar that extends in a lengthwise direction between first and second ends. The spreader bar carries at least one radiused surface between the first and second ends. At least one mechanical vibration device is operable to vibrate the spreader bar. The at least one mechanical vibration device is connected to input mechanical vibration into the spreader bar at a location between the first and second ends. A method for spreading at least one fiber bundle includes moving at least one tensioned fiber bundle over a radiused surface of the spreader bar. During the moving, mechanical vibration is input into the spreader bar at a location between the first and second ends, to transversely spread and flatten the at least one tensioned fiber bundle.

    摘要: This invention provides a method for efficiently applying a coating to each of a plurality of objects selected from the group consisting of ophthalmic lenses, molds for making ophthalmic lenses, and other medical devices, the method comprising dipping the plurality of objects into a coating bath containing a coating solution having a coating material; and creating with a means a convective current flow and thereby forcing a coating solution flowing over and under each of the plurality of ophthalmic lenses. In a preferred embodiment, the plurality of objects are held in baskets which are pre-conditioned to have a first layer of polyelectrolytes and a second layer of aqueous solution or have a mixed layer of polyelectrolytes and aqueous solution on the surfaces of the baskets.

    摘要: In the manufacture of optical fibres (18) these are coated as quickly as possible with a mechanical protection, suitably in the form of a coating of silicon rubber. The coating is provided by having the fibre pass through a bath (21) of coating material after drawing. As soon as the drawing rate exceeds a certain limit the applied coating becomes uneven. In accordance with the invention this limit can be substantially increased by placing a vibrating member (23), which is in contact with the bath surface, adjacent the point (27) where the fibre (18) passes into the bath (21).

    摘要: A magnetic lifting device for lifting a stack of specimen holders out of one tube and lowering them into another tube is disclosed. The device avoids the necessity of manual handling of the stack. In the device there are a number of stack holding tubes, each one open at the top, positioned in a circle about a vertical axis of a rotatable carousel. An indexing system rotates the carousel to selectively place one of the stack holding tubes in a treatment position. The improvement comprises a magnetizable member attached to the top of the stack of sample holders, a transfer tube having a bottom opening positioned to mate on top of the stack holding tube to hold the magnetizable member in a magnetic field, a device to raise and lower the magnetic coil about the transfer tube to raise and lower the magnetic coil about the transfer tube to raise the stack into the transfer tube allowing the carousel to be rotated, and lower the stack into another stack holding tube.

    摘要: A device for containing a heated bath of solder for coating or tinning an object without the use of flux by subjecting the bath and object to ultrasonic waves during the tinning process characterized by a probe or sonotrode of the ultrasonic transducer entering the bath through an aperture in the bottom wall of the container so that ultrasonic waves permeate the bath without wave interference due to reflecting from the walls of the container. The probe is sealed to the bottom wall by a device which includes a compressed ring-shaped seal member positioned to engage the probe at a nodal plane. Preferably the probe and transducer are interconnected by an intermediate member which is cooled either by fluids flowing through channels therein, or by a stream of air from a fan which stream is directed at the member so that the transducer does not become damaged by the heat conducted by the probe from the solder bath.
