摘要: A resin-molded component such as a loudspeaker diaphragm, in which rigidity is enhanced while light weight and high specific modulus of elasticity are maintained, is formed by applying carbon dioxide gas with a predetermined pressure to a thermoplastic resin in which crystallization is facilitated in the resin flowing direction to fill a mold. After the resin is filled, injection molding is performed by somewhat moving the mold to form five layers of: oriented minute-foaming layers, having approximately cylindrical foams, the length of which is twice the diameter thereof in the resin flowing direction in the mold, an unfoamed core layer positioned between both the foaming layers, and unfoamed skin layers formed on the front and rear surfaces.

摘要: A sheet-like electrical stress control article includes at least one void-filling layer of elastomeric void-filling material having some electrical stress control functionality (for example, containing 20 to 70% by weight of electrically conductive or semi-conductive fillers) and at least one support layer of elastomeric material selected and/or formulated (for example, with 45 to 65% by weight fillers) to require increasing applied stress to produce therein a given unit of strain as it approaches its break point The thickness and composition of the respective layers are selected so that the article is stretchable during application thereof to parts of a cable and the increasing stress required to stretch the support layer resists over-elongation of the void-filling layer.

摘要: Articles and methods for the high-energy desorption/ionization of various compositions are disclosed. Methods of the invention utilize porous substrates, optionally in combination with one or more surface coatings and fillers, to provide enhanced desorption of analytes. Such enhanced desorption is particularly useful in fields of analysis such as mass spectrometry. This enhanced desorption has various utilities. For example, use of the porous substrate may allow desorption to be performed without the use of chemical matrices.

摘要: There is provided a multi-layered foamed article. The foam article has a layer of foam material on either side of an inner peel layer disposed roughly in the middle of the foam. The portion of the foam in closest proximity to the peel layer is subjected to the greatest amount of heat during extrusion forming mostly large open cell foam. The foam near the surface of the multiplayer foam article is cooled by the atmosphere or contact with cooling surfaces and comprises mostly small closed-cell foam. There is also provided a method for making a multi-layer foamed article by co-extruding an inner peel layer sandwiched between two expanded layers of a foam material. Each of the expanded foam layers on either side of the peel layer of the article is easily peeled or stripped from the peel inner layer and the multi-layer article is converted into a foamed article with absorbing characteristics on one side and non-absorbing characteristics on the other side. Thus, the foam is predominantly open-cell on one side of the structure and predominantly closed-cell on the opposing side. The open-cell portion of the article is highly absorbent and easily soaks up liquids. The closed cell portion of the foam article acts as a waterproof layer preventing liquid from moving all the way through the thickness of the foam. After blowing the polymer melt, the extrusion product comprises a foam article with a peel layer disposed roughly in the middle of the foam. A preferred embodiment of the multi-layer article is polystyrene foam for the two outer layers and a polyethylene film as the inner peel layer.

摘要: There is described a simultaneously oriented polyolefinic (e.g. polypropylene) film comprising particles in at least one layer thereof, said particles incompatible with said layer to cause the initiation of voids therein when the cast polyolefin is stretched simultaneously in both the MD and TD, and where the particles comprise: (i) particles having a mean aspect ratio x/y of at least 2 (e.g. long and thin) and a mean size of the longest particle dimension greater than about 3 microns (preferably about 6 microns); and/or (ii) particles having a mean aspect ratio of about 1 (e.g. spherical or boulder-like), with a narrow size distribution, a mean particle size of from about 3 to about 10 microns, (preferably about 6 microns), and which are substantially free of particles above about 12 microns in size and optionally also substantially free of particles below about 3 microns in size. Preferred BOPP films are further characterised in that ratio of at least one of the following properties measured in the MD with respect to TD is: (a) tensile strength of above 0.5; (b) elongation at break of below 2.0; (c) Young's modulus of at least 0.7; and/or (d) shrinkage of at least 0.45, the TD shrinkage being other than zero.
