A continuous process for the manufacture of a metal salt solution is described which provides more economical products with higher quality than current processes. The process is safer, both to operating personnel and to the environment, than currently used processes. The process comprises feeding an aqueous metal compound slurry, e.g., a metal oxide/hydroxide slurry and a mineral acid, e.g., nitric acid, and water to a reactor which includes a zone of extreme mixing and agitation, most preferably a cross-pipe reactor provided with an optional static in-line mixer. A cross-pipe reactor provides complete and efficient reaction by providing greater surface area, high agitation and a long reaction time.

There is provided a method for producing zeolite having a CHA structure in which Cu is carried, the method enabling an increase in ion exchange efficiency of Cu, effective utilization of Cu, and reduction in production cost. The method for producing the zeolite having the CHA structure in which Cu is carried includes a mixing step of mixing a powder of the zeolite having the CHA structure and a powder of Cu salt with each other and a heating step of heating the obtained powder mixture.

The present invention provides a novel anion conductor which comprises a layered metal hydroxide and can be used as an alkaline electrolyte film for use in a fuel cell or the like. An anion conductor characterized by comprising a molded product of a layered metal hydroxide represented by formula (1): [Mx(OH)y(A)(αx-y)/z-nH2O] (wherein M represents a metal that can serve as a bivalent or trivalent cation; α represents the number of valency of the metal M, A represents an atom or an atomic group that can serve as an anion, and z represents the number of valency of the anion A, wherein, when (αx-y)/z is 2 or greater, A's may be different types of anions which can serve as anions having the same valencies as each other, or may be anions having different valencies from each other; and n represents the average number of molecules of interlayer water contained per one repeating unit). The anion conductor according to the present invention is composed of an inorganic material, and therefore has excellent heat resistance and physical strength and can be operated for a longer period at a higher temperature compared with the conventional ones when used as an anion conductor for a fuel cell, an air cell or the like.

A substantially iron-free copper nitrate solution is made by dissolving a copper-containing solid catalyst composition such as a used copper-zinc oxide-alumina methanol synthesis catalyst in nitric acid and controlling the acid concentration at a level such that any iron oxide present in the composition remains substantially undissolved. The acid concentration during dissolution is preferably under 4 molar. Alternatively or additionally the terminal pH is greater than 1.0. The resulting solution is pure enough for reconversion to catalyst by co-precipitation.

Disclosed is a process for removing metals from waste, particularly electronic waste (or “e-waste”). The process generally includes the steps of dissolving at least some of the metals from the waste with nitric acid reagent and then causing at least some of the metals to precipitate as metal oxides and/or metal nitrates. NOx gases produced as by-product by the nitric acid dissolution of metallic components in the electronic waste are reused, in particular for generating permanganate when one of the metallic components comprises manganese.
