Abstract:
A lubricant composition is disclosed that comprises lubricating oil and a mixture of at least two antioxidants, the first antioxidant being a substituted diphenylamine and/or a heterocyclic amine and the second antioxidant being a substituted phenol. Also disclosed is a method of increasing the oxidation stability of a lubricating oil comprising adding thereto at least two antioxidants, the first antioxidant being a substituted diphenylamine and/or a heterocyclic amine and the second antioxidant being a substituted phenol.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a stable, soluble, antimicrobial composition concentrate comprising pyrithione or a pyrithione complex in an amount of from about 0.5% to about 30 weight percent, a zinc source in an amount of from about 0.1% to about 10%, and an organic amine component in an amount of from about 30% to about 80%, said percents being based upon the total weight of the composition concentrate. The invention is also directed to methods of controlling the growth of free-living microorganisms or biofilms using the antimicrobial composition of the invention, and products made using the antimicrobial composition of the invention.
Abstract:
Compounds suitable as extreme pressure additives for lubricating oils are of the general formulaCX.sub.3 -S-S-Rwhere X is a halogen and R is a hydrocarbyl. The performance of the compounds is improved by the addition of a stabilizer.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a method of using a water-based coolant for quenching or cutting a metal material. The water-based coolant is formed of: water; at least one inorganic acid salt selected from the group consisting of a carbonate, a hydrogen carbonate, a sesquicarbonate, a phosphate, a borate, a molybdate and a tungstate; a metal corrosion inhibitor; and optionally at least one of a bactericide, a water-soluble rust inhibitor, an antioxidant and a detergent dispersant.
Abstract:
Described are multi-ring antioxidant products comprising at least one sulfur-bridged aromatic hydrocarbon compound substituted on at least one of its aromatic rings by at least one sterically hindered 3,5-dihydrocarbyl-4-hydroxybenzyl moiety. Such products have the formula: R—Sn—R[—S—R]m wherein each R is, independently, an aromatic hydrocarbon group having 6-12 carbon atoms, wherein m is 0-20, wherein n is 1-6 when m is 0, and when n is 1, m is 1-20; and wherein at least one of R, R1, and R2 is substituted by at least one such sterically hindered moiety. The preparation of such products and their use as antioxidants in compositions normally susceptible to oxidative degradation in oxygen or air, e.g., liquid fuel and lubricants, are also described.
Abstract:
A premium synthetic lubricant having antiwear properties comprises a synthetic isoparaffinic hydrocarbon base stock and an effective amount of at least one antiwear additive. The antiwear additive is preferably at least one of a metal phosphate, a metal dialkyldithiophosphate, a metal dithiophosphate a metal thiocarbamate, a metal dithiocarbamate, an ethoxylated amine dialkyldithiophosphate and an ethoxylated amine dithiobenzoate. Metal dialkyldithiophosphates are preferred, particularly zincdialkyldithiophosphate (ZDDP). The base stock is derived from a waxy, Fischer-Tropsch synthesized hydrocarbon feed fraction comprising hydrocarbons having an initial boiling point in the range of about 650-750.degree. F., by a process which comprises hydroisomerizing the feed and dewaxing the isomerate. The lubricant may also contain hydrocarbonaceous and synthetic base stock material in admxture with the Fischer-Tropsch derived base stock.
Abstract:
This invention provides sulfur-containing carbonate reaction product additives which are useful as phosphorus-free antiwear additives in lubricating oils, particularly automatic transmission fluids.
Abstract:
