Abstract: A heater system includes an integrated heater device. The integrated heater device includes at least one multiportion resistive element having a first portion defined by a first conductive material and a second portion defined by a second conductive material having a lower temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) than that of the first conductive material. The second portion is coupled to the first portion so as to extend along an axis, and the at least one multiportion resistive element is operable as a heater to generate heat and as a sensor.

Abstract: This invention relates to a heater. A combustion air blower feeds combustion air to a burner device. The burner device burns a gas-air mixture from the combustion air and a fuel and serves for heating air. A circulating air blower discharges heated air from the heater. A control device acts on at least one component of the heater, wherein a night mode parameter set associated with an operation of the heater in a night mode and a default parameter set are stored in a data storage device. After an activation of the night mode, the control device accesses the night mode parameter set and uses the same for acting on the component. The night mode parameter set effects a reduction of background noise generated by the heater.

Abstract: A water heating system can include a water heater having a tank, an inlet line, and an outlet line, where the inlet line provides unheated water to the tank, and where the outlet line draws heated water from the tank. The water heating system can also include multiple sensing devices, where each sensing device of the plurality of sensing devices measures a parameter associated with the tank. The water heating system can further include a controller communicably coupled to the plurality of sensing devices, where the controller determines an amount of heated water in the tank based on measurements made by the plurality of sensing devices.

Abstract: In an electric water heater having adjustable set point and differential temperatures, upper and lower heating elements, and associated temperature sensors respectively operative to sense upper and lower tank water temperatures, a specially designed control system is provided for controlling the heating elements. The control system is operative to prevent dry firing of the heating elements by measuring temperatures over time with the temperature sensors.

Abstract: An automatically flushing water heater maintenance system may be provided, the system including a water heater and a water heater controller. The water heater may include an inlet, an outlet, and a flush outlet having a first control valve in flow communication therewith. The first control valve may be configured to control a flow of water and sediment through the flush outlet out of the water heater. The water heater controller may be configured to communicate with the first control valve by transmitting a first control signal to the first control valve, the first control signal configured to cause the first control valve to open or close as part of an automatic flushing process. As a result of the flushing, the useful life of the water heater may be extended, and/or water heater leakage alleviated. Insurance discounts may be provided based upon using the automatic water heater flushing functionality.

Abstract: A monitoring system for monitoring parameters of a fluid heater is disclosed. The heater comprises a storage vessel for storing heated fluid therein. The monitoring system includes a first sensor and associated first electrical metering circuitry, a second sensor and associated second electrical metering circuitry, and a control switch. The control switch is operable to adopt a first mode of operation in which the first electrical metering circuitry is activated and a second mode of operation in which the second electrical metering circuitry is activated. The monitoring system also includes a controller for causing periodic operation of the control switch so that it switches between the first and second modes of operation.

Abstract: A forced air heater that includes a temperature sensing device, the temperature sensing device includes: a sensing plate mounted on a metallic component in the environment to be heated; and an electrical contact connected to the sensing plate, wherein the electrical contact is thermally coupled with the metallic component via the sensing plate. There is further provided a method of controlling a heater that includes a temperature sensing device that it is thermally connected to a solid component in the environment to be heated.
