The present invention relates to a method for the manufacture of pressure-resistant gas and/or liquid tight containers made from thermoplastic materials. To this end the method comprises the following steps : providing a removable external mandrel around a neckpiece, followed by providing at the inside of such mandrel a thermoplastic material for the manufacture of a thermoplastic internal wall. Hereupon the external mandrel is removed and the thermoplastic internal wall is filled with a cooling liquid. Hereupon additional thermoplastic material is provided to the external side of the thermoplastic wall and is consolidated either during the provision hereof, or thereafter or both. Hereupon the cooling liquid is removed and the container is ready for being used.

The instant invention pertains to a new method for improving the barrier properties of composite gas cylinders for the storage of gas, by sheathing the outer surface of a composite gas cylinder with a tubular plastic film comprising a barrier material and shrinking it by heat treatment to approach a strong connection. The composite gas cylinder comprises an inner liner made of polyolefin and an outer fibre-reinforced, pressure supporting layer. The barrier material may comprise polyamide, polyester, halogen substituted polymer, EVOH or a metallization. The invention pertains also to a high pressure composite gas cylinder having enhanced barrier properties and its use as a fuel tank in gas driven automotive vehicles equipped with a combustion engine.

A method for manufacturing a part having a resin-impregnated fiber layer (4) formed by hardening resin-impregnated fiber has a forming procedure for forming the resin-impregnated fiber layer (4). The forming procedure includes a winding process for winding a predetermined amount of the resin-impregnated fiber and a gelling process for gelling the resin in the wound portion of the resin-impregnated fiber. In the forming procedure, the winding process is performed again after the winding process and the gelling process are performed, whereby a predetermined amount of the resin-impregnated fiber is wound on the gelled resin-impregnated fiber.
