There are provided compounds and methods for amidating the C-terminus of a polypeptide. The method include reacting a polypeptide which includes a C-terminal thioester or C-terminal selenoester with any one of a defined set of auxiliary molecules under conditions suitable to produce a polypeptide adduct which includes the auxiliary molecule chemically bound at the C- terminal of the polypeptide. In the subsequent step, the auxiliary molecule is removed from the C-terminal of the polypeptide adduct under conditions suitable to produce an amidated polypeptide.

Novel addition products of isocyanates with oxyalkylene-substituted aminophenol compounds as intermediates for the production of urethane-substituted xanthene colorants, particularly triphenylmethane derivatives such as rhodamines, are provided. The xanthene colorants exhibit improved wax and/or oil solubility and high purity. The urethane-substituted xanthene colorant features very good wax and/or oil solubility, and is believed to be relatively nontoxic. A method for producing this novel colorant is also provided.

These compounds may be represented by the formula X-R1 wherein X is a phenyl ring which may be substituted with one or more nitro, methyl or trihalomethyl groups and R1 is a benzophenone hydrazone, a xanthone hydrazone, a thioxanthone hydrazone, a fluoren hydrazone, an anthraquinone hydrazone, an anthraquinone phenylhydrazone, an indano (1,2,3-(de))-2(H)-phtalazinone, a tetralin (1,2,3-(de))-2(H)-phtalazinone, an acridone hydrazone, or a dibenzosuberenone hydrazone. The R1 moiety may be substituted with one or more hydroxy, methoxy or halogen groups. These compounds are useful as chemotherapeutic antineoplastic agents.

The present invention relates to a compound for detecting phosgene and DCP (diethyl chlorophosphate) and a composition for detecting phosgene and DCP (diethyl chlorophosphate) comprising the said compound. More precisely, the compound for detecting phosgene and DCP of the present invention can selectively detect phosgene and DCP either in the liquid phase of gas phase by detecting the changes of fluorescence and color development very quickly within a few seconds with nM sensitivity. Therefore, the compound can also be effectively used as an ingredient for the composition and kit for the detection of one or more materials selected from the group consisting of phosgene and DCP.

A novel class of energy transfer dyes, their preparation, and their use as labels in biological systems is disclosed. The dyes are preferably in the form of cassettes which enable their attachment to a variety of biological materials. The dyes and the reagents that can be made from them offer a wide variety of fluorescent labels with large Stokes' shifts enabling their use in a variety of fluorescence applications over a wide range of the visible spectrum.
