摘要: A fiber amplifier includes at least one longitudinally extending non-doped inner core capable of transmitting signals. At least partially surrounding the inner core and extending at least partially therealong, the fiber amplifier also includes at least one gain region capable of amplifying signals propagating therethrough. The fiber amplifier also includes an outer core surrounding the gain region and the inner core and extending longitudinally therealong. The outer core is capable of transmitting pump energy such that the pump energy at least partially amplifies signals propagating through the inner core according to a nonlinear amplification process, such as a Raman or a Brillouin amplification process.

摘要: A network connection blocker for monitoring connections between host computers in a network and blocking the unwanted connections. The host computers transmit connection packets between each other in accordance with a network protocol suite when seeking to establish, providing network services with, and close the connections. The network protocol suite includes a connection oriented transport layer protocol. The network connection blocker comprises a network interface that receives the connection packets transmitted between the host computers. It also comprises a blocking module that processes the received connection packets to detect the unwanted connections. The blocking module then generates connection packets in accordance with the network protocol suite to cause the detected unwanted connections to be closed by the corresponding host computers between which are the unwanted connections. The network interface then transmits the generated connection packets to these host computers.

摘要: An adhesive tape composition includes a polymer blend comprising at least one ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer and at least one fully saturated adhesive-enhancing polymer miscible with said at least one ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer. The tape adhesive composition further includes at least one tackifying additive compatible with said polymer blend and a sulfur and organic accelerator cure package for said polymer blend, the adhesive composition being devoid of butyl rubber which is found in most other adhesive tape compositions. This composition is seen as providing excellent long-term heat aging, weathering resistance, and low temperature properties as compared to adhesive tape compositions containing butyl rubber. Moreover, the adhesive tape composition provides more surface tack, better "quick-grab", and higher green strength as compared to adhesive tape compositions containing 100 percent EPDM rubber. A method is also provided for covering roofs which includes the step of employing the adhesive tape composition.

摘要: A self-adhering heat seamable sheet material for roofing prepared from an uncured polymeric composition of matter which comprises 100 parts by weight of a polymer blend comprising from about 10 to 95 parts by weight of an polymer selected from the group consisting of semi-crystalline polymers having more than about 2 percent be weight crystallinity and polyolefins having up to about 2 percent by weight crystallinity, which polyolefins are prepared from monomers having at least 2 carbon atoms, and mixtures thereof; and from about 5 to 90 parts by weight of a crystallinity enhancing polymer and mixtures thereof; from about 20 to 300 parts by weight of a filler selected from the group consisting of reinforcing and non-reinforcing materials and mixtures thereof per 100 parts of the polymer blend; and from about 20 to 150 parts by weight of a processing material and mixtures thereof, per 100 parts of the polymer blend. A method for covering a roof comprises the steps of applying layers of self-adhering sheet material prepared from an uncured heat seamable polymeric composition of matter comprising blends of polyolefins, semi-crystalline polyolefins and crystallinity enhancing polymers to the roof being covered; overlapping adjacent edges of the layers; heating the overlapped areas to about the softening point of the sheet material and seaming the overlapped areas under sufficient pressure to provide an acceptable seam strength. For practice of the method, the composition of matter is self-adhering, without the use of an adhesive.

摘要: A method and apparatus for decreasing delay and use of data processing resources in the reliable transmission of data frames in a packet network. In transmitting data from a source to a destination over a plurality of intermediate data switching points, the data processing required for each frame is selectively varied at each data switching point, according to the requirements for transmission of data frames of a message and of the succeeding link used for that message. A virtual link address is transmitted with each data frame which is translated into the mode of processing the frame at the data switching point, and into the virtual and real address of the next data link. Advantageously, such an arrangement allows for minimizing the data processing load and delay at each protocol handler of the data path through the packet network.
