Abstract: Disclosed is a ventricular decompression and assisting apparatus (100). The apparatus (100) includes a pigtail and a catheter that is introduced percutaneously into a femoral/radial/brachial vein or artery and is advanced into the ventricle where blood is drawn and mechanically pumped back with an external blood pump (40) and pumped back downstream into the aorta (2) or venous system or the pulmonary artery using another suitable catheter from a second access into the femoral/radial/brachial artery or any vein and with tip thereof positioned at a desired location thus forming a ventricular vent loop. The desired cardiac circulation is maintained with smart pumping, monitoring and control while relieving the load on the heart muscle to rebuild strength thereof. The apparatus (100) provides user friendly simplified approach to ventricular venting and unloading as a means for mechanical circulatory support of the left heart, right heart or both circulations even simultaneously.

Abstract: A fluid handling system includes a console configured to connect with a first electrical interface that is configured to connect to a plurality of components of the fluid handling system, the console including a second electrical interface configured to connect with the first electrical interface, a display, and one or more hardware processors. A control system includes the one or more hardware processors and a non-transitory memory storing instructions that, when executed, cause the control system to: detect an electrical signal from a first component of the plurality of components of the fluid handling system responsive to a caretaker performing a first instruction; determine a system state of the fluid handling system based at least in part on the electrical signal from the first component; compare the system state with a predetermined state condition corresponding to said first instruction; and output an indication on the display of the system state.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods are described including a blood pump that includes an axial shaft, an impeller disposed on the axial shaft, a frame disposed around the impeller, and a motor disposed outside a subject's body, and configured to drive the impeller to pump blood from a distal end of the impeller to a proximal end of the impeller. A drive cable extends from outside the subject's body to the axial shaft, and is configured to impart rotational motion from the motor to the impeller by rotating. The drive cable is held in a preloaded state with respect to the frame, such that initiation of pumping of blood by rotation of the impeller does not cause the drive cable to axially elongate. Other applications are also described.

Abstract: In a method for intermittently occluding the coronary sinus, in which the coronary sinus is occluded using an occlusion device, the fluid pressure in the occluded coronary sinus is continuously measured and stored, the fluid pressure curve is determined as a function of time, and the occlusion of the coronary sinus is triggered and/or released as a function of at least one characteristic value derived from the measured pressure values. The pressure increase and/or pressure decrease per time unit each occurring at a heart beat are used as characteristic values.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for estimating a measure of cardiac contractility based on a set of features determined from a set of signals associated with a mechanical circulatory support device are provided. The method includes determining, using computer processor, a set of features based, at least in part, on the set of signals, providing the set of features as input to a machine learning model trained to output a measure of cardiac contractility, and performing an action based, at least in part, on the measure of cardiac contractility output by the machine learning model.

The system may include a sheath assembly with an introducer sheath and a variable size repositioning sheath. The variable size repositioning sheath may be configured to be adjustable in size in a radial direction and to be inserted into the blood vessel or an expandable introducer sheath. Abstract: Apparatus and methods are described including a ventricular assist device that includes an impeller configured to be placed inside a subject's left ventricle. A frame is disposed around the impeller, the frame defining generally-cylindrical central portion, and a proximal conical portion that widens from a proximal end of the frame to a proximal end of the generally-cylindrical central portion. A motor drives the impeller to pump blood from the left ventricle to the subject's aorta, by rotation of the impeller. The impeller is configured to be disposed at least partially within the proximal conical portion of the frame during at least some of a time during which the impeller rotates. Other applications are also described.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for determining whether a circulatory support device is correctly positioned in a heart of a patient are provided. The method comprises receiving a motor current signal from a motor of the circulatory support device, receiving a pressure signal from a pressure sensor arranged on the circulatory support device, generating a normalized motor current signal based, at least in part, on the pressure signal, determining a pulsatility of the normalized motor current signal, determining whether the circulatory support device is correctly positioned in the heart of the patient based, at least in part, on the pulsatility of the normalized motor current signal, and outputting an alarm when it is determined that the circulatory support device is not correctly positioned in the heart of the patient.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a device for treating an aneurysm of a human or mammal patient, wherein the aneurysm may self expand, leading to the aneurysm bursting with high risk for death of the human or mammal patient. The device is provided with an implantable member to be placed in connection with the outside of a blood vessel having the aneurysm, and to exercise a pressure on the outside of the blood vessel having the aneurysm, a measuring device or sensor for measuring or sensing an expansion of the aneurysm, and a monitoring system for monitoring the expansion of the aneurysm based on a signal received from the measuring device or sensor.
