摘要: Systems and methods provide witness sled hardware installed in a chassis and supported during network failures using management resources of the chassis. A chassis may include data storage devices and Information Handling Systems (IHSs), each configured to store data redundantly to the data storage devices, such as part of a vSAN (Virtual Storage Area Network). The witness sled is configured to provide witness functions, such as to arbitrate discrepancies in the redundantly stored data. The chassis also includes a chassis management controller (CMC) configured to initiate a connection with the witness sled via a management signaling pathway in response to a notification indicating a network fault in a high-speed connection used by the IHSs in communicating with the witness sled. The CMC receives witness transactions from theses IHSs and utilizes the connection initiated via the management signaling pathway to submit the transactions for processing by the witness sled.

摘要: A method for proactively rebuilding user data in a plurality of storage nodes of a storage cluster in a single chassis is provided. The method includes distributing user data and metadata throughout the plurality of storage nodes such that the plurality of storage nodes can read the user data, using erasure coding, despite loss of two of the plurality of storage nodes. The method includes determining to rebuild the user data for one of the plurality of storage nodes in the absences of an error condition. The method includes rebuilding the user data for the one of the plurality of storage nodes. A plurality of storage nodes within a single chassis that can proactively rebuild the user data stored within the storage nodes is also provided.

摘要: A memory module is disclosed that includes a substrate, a memory device that outputs read data, and a buffer. The buffer has a primary interface for transferring the read data to a memory controller and a secondary interface coupled to the memory device to receive the read data. The buffer includes error logic to identify an error in the received read data and to identify a storage cell location in the memory device associated with the error. Repair logic maps a replacement storage element as a substitute storage element for the storage cell location associated with the error.

摘要: A method for managing data availability includes making a first determination by a first security module (FSM) that a first storage area network (SAN) infrastructure in a first data center has experienced a failure. The method also includes generating a secure string based on a first configuration parameter. Further, the method includes appending the secure string to a SAN failure notification to generate a secure string-appended request. In addition, the method includes sending the secure string-appended request to a second data center, wherein the second data center is selected based on a second configuration parameter. Moreover, the method includes making a second determination that the encrypted secure string-appended request is valid. Further, the method includes offloading processing of requests sent to the first data center using the second data center.

摘要: A method includes writing sets of encoded data slices to storage units of a storage network in accordance with error encoding parameters, where for a set of encoded data slices, the error encoding parameters include an error coding number and a decode threshold number, the error coding number indicates a number of encoded data slices that results when a data segment is encoded using an error encoding function and the decode threshold number indicates a minimum number needed to recover the data segment. The method further includes monitoring processing of the writing the sets of encoded data slices to produce write processing performance information. When the write processing performance information compares unfavorably to a desired write performance range, the method further includes adjusting at least one of the error coding number and the decode threshold number to produce adjusted error encoding parameters for writing subsequent encoded data slices.

摘要: A storage device including: a nonvolatile memory device including a plurality of nonvolatile memory cells, a partial storage area and an overprovision storage area; and a controller configured to control the nonvolatile memory device, wherein when the controller detects a fault of the nonvolatile memory device, the controller negates the partial storage area, reassigns the overprovision storage area, which corresponds to a size of a user area, among the partial storage area, determines a device fail if the overprovision storage area is less than an overprovision threshold after the reassigning of the partial storage area, and determines a recovery success if the overprovision storage area is equal to or greater than the overprovision threshold after the reassigning of the partial storage area.
