The invention relates to a method of determining measurement-point position data and a device for measuring the magnification of an optical beam path. In the method described, a laser beam is inserted via an insertion element (32a) into the beam path of a microscope. At the end of this beam path, a beam splitter (4c) splits the laser beam off again and directs it on to a position sensor (45a). The point at which the measurement beam is incident depends on the magnification of the beam path optics (8, 13). The final value of the magnification can thus be simply determined. The value of the magnification is important for the user in order to enable the user to make a definite assessment of the area observed. Also described are various related developments and details of the invention.

The flakes are characterized in that they have physical dimensions such that when the dimensions of the flakes are measured parallel to and perpendicular to the respective first and second planar parallel surfaces, an aspect ratio of at least two-to-one is provided. Each of the flakes has a symmetrical optically variable multilayer thin film interference structure including at least one thick substantially opaque metal reflecting layer having first and second surfaces and a multilayer thin film including at least one thin semi-transparent metal layer and at least one dielectric layer formed of an inorganic material with an index of refraction of 1.65 or less and disposed on each side of the substantially opaque metal reflecting layer. The multilayer thin film structure produces a shift in color between two distinct colors when the angle of incident light on the paint film is shifted between two different angles.

The rack-and-pinion housing is constructed with a gearing such that it can be moved along the profile column. Arranged between the rack-and-pinion housing and the profile column are a plurality of sliding elements (8), which are firstly constructed resiliently and form a force-closed connection between the rack-and-pinion housing and the profile column. For the purpose of fixing in the rack-and-pinion housing, the sliding elements (8) have a receptacle (11) for inserting an adhesive. After curing the adhesive, the sliding elements (8) lose their spring action.
