Abstract:
An ashless detergent additive having antioxidant and metal surface protection properties for lubricants or fuels is made from a Mannich condensation reaction between a hydrocarbylbissuccinimide, such as a dimer of a polyisobutenylsuccinimide (derived from tetraethylenepentamine), an aldehyde, such as formaldehyde, and a heteroatom substituted benzoic acid such as salicyclic acid, thiosalicyclic acid or aminosalicylic acid.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to an oil-soluble lubricating oil additive comprising at least one adduct of (A) a polyolefin of 700 to 5,000 number average molecular weight substituted nitrogen- or ester-containing ashless dispersant and (B) a bis-keto/thioketo compound.

Abstract:
A lubricant based on a mineral or synthetic oil is stabilized against oxidative degradation by the addition of a mixture comprising at least one specified aromatic amine of the formula I ##STR1## and at least one sterically hindered amine. The lubricant may contain other antioxidants or other additives. It is preferably used as motor oil.
Abstract:
This invention relates to lubricating compositions containing hydroxyalkane phosphonic acids and derivatives thereof.Hydroxyalkane phosponic acids in the present invention can be reacted to form salts with basic materials, including detergents, dispersants and amines. These materials can be particularly useful in lubricating compositions to improve anti-wear and extreme pressure properties of lubricating formulations. The hydroxyalkane phosphonic acid is represented by the following formula: ##STR1## wherein Y is a phosphonic acid group or hydrogen, and R is alkyl from 1 to about 100 carbon atoms.
Abstract:
Long-chain aliphatic hydrocarbyl polyamino additives which comprise a long-chain aliphatic hydrocarbyl moiety, a polyamino moiety and an oxy-carbonyl connecting group which joins the aliphatic hydrocarbyl moiety and the polyamino moiety are useful as dispersants in fuel compositions and in lubricating oil compositions.
Abstract:
This invention is to lubricating or fuel oil compositions containing amine compatibility aids. The amine compatibility additives are especially useful in stabilizing (or "compatibilizing") concentrates, lubricating oil or fuel oil compositions which contain copper antioxidants, high molecular weight dispersants, high total base number detergents, and various antiwear friction modifier materials. These materials may, in some circumstances, replace at least a portion of previously used compatibility aids and antioxidants.
Abstract:
Reaction products in which polyethers are grown from substituted phenol-containing mannich bases have been found to be effective ashless dispersants and detergents for fuels and lubricants.
Abstract:
A dispersing agent for use in dispersing a finely divided solid powder in a nonaqueous dispersion medium and a dispersion prepared by using the dispersing agent. The dispersing agent of this invention is a low acid value lanolin fatty acid and/or a salt of the same. By means of this dispersing agent, there can be easily obtained a homogeneous and stable nonaqueous dispersion from which the incorporated solid particles will not separate out or settle even on prolonged standing. Therefore, this dispersing agent can be used advantageously in a broad range of applications such as coatings, dyes, pigments, inks, fuels, lubricating materials and so on.
