    摘要: A fuel injection system (60) is provided for an internal combustion engine (62). The engine has a plurality of cylinders (70). The system includes a plurality of fuel injectors (10′) constructed and arranged to receive fuel. One fuel injector is associated with a cylinder for injecting fuel into the associated cylinder. Each fuel injector has a valve body (14), a fuel volume V, and a coil (50) to inductively heat the valve body and thus heat fuel in the fuel volume to vaporize the fuel prior to injection into the associated cylinder. A cold start fuel injector (10, 10′) is disposed in an air supply passage (72) that supplies air to the cylinders. The cold start fuel injector has a valve body (14), a fuel volume (V) and a coil (50) to inductively heat the valve body to vaporize the fuel in the fuel volume prior to injection into the supply passage.

    摘要: A method for controlling a fuel system of an internal combustion engine. The method is employed with a fuel system having a source of alcohol-containing liquid fuel, at least one fuel injector, a heat source for heating the liquid fuel in the at least one fuel injector, the heat source capable of heating the liquid fuel to a level sufficient to convert at least a portion thereof from the liquid state to a vapor state and a metering valve operable to achieve a range of flow rates characterized by a valve open versus valve closed duty cycle. The method includes the steps of metering a predetermined amount of fuel based on engine operating conditions, controlling power supplied to the heat source of the at least one fuel injector to achieve a target temperature, determining alcohol concentration of the fuel and adjusting the power supplied to the heat source of the at least one fuel injector based on the alcohol concentration determination. A method of determining alcohol concentration and a fuel system for use in an alcohol fueled internal combustion engine is also provided.

    摘要: A cold start fuel control system provided for use with an internal combustion engine of the type having at least one combustion chamber, an air/fuel passageway fluidly connected with the combustion chamber and the source of fuel. The fuel control system includes an annular heater having an interior annular wall disposed within the passageway. A cold start fuel injector has its inlet fluidly connected to the fuel source and an outlet open to the passageway such that fuel from the outlet flows into the interior of the heater. Whenever the operating temperature of the engine is below a predetermined level, fuel is selectively provided to the cold start fuel injector which injects fuel into the passageway. The fuel discharge from the cold start fuel injector is swirled so that at least a portion of the fuel from the cold start fuel injector impinges upon the annular heater and is thus vaporized.

    摘要: A cold start fuel control system as provided for an internal combustion engine of the type having at least one combustion chamber, an intake manifold and a source of fuel. A fuel vapor canister has an interior chamber fluidly connected to the source of fuel and a normally closed shut-off valve fluidly connected between the canister and ambient air. A normally closed purge valve is then fluidly connected in series between the interior of the canister and the intake manifold. The system also includes a cold start fuel injector having an inlet connected to the fuel source and an outlet open to the intake manifold or, optionally, to the interior of the fuel vapor canister. During a cold start engine condition, fuel is supplied as needed from both the fuel vapor canister and cold start injector by activating the cold start injector and simultaneously opening the purge and shut-off valves in synchronism with the engine intake cycle(s). An air flow sensor measures the mass flow of the air/fuel mixture to the engine and provide an output signal to an electronic control unit which controls the activation of the cold start fuel injector and/or valves to achieve a stoichiometric or slightly lean air/fuel mixture. Additionally, secondary air is provided through the cold start fuel injector for enhancing the atomization of the fuel in the air from the cold start injector.
