    Abstract: The present invention provides vicinal surfaces of polycrystalline materials and a method for their preparation. The method includes the deposition of a polycrystalline material on a substrate followed by removing the material from the substrate so as to expose a vicinal surface having stepped terraces. The step of removing the material from the substrate may be preceded by annealing. The vicinal surfaces are useful for a variety of applications.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for resolving conjunctive queries, comprising relational predicates and external predicates, such as XML predicates. The method and apparatus obtain results from a relational engine or from an external engine, and then use the obtained results as input for the other engine, so as to optimize the activity of the other engine.     Abstract: A method for creating a metabolic map of metabolic reactions by selecting metabolic reactions active in cancer cells. A core set of metabolic reactions occurring in the cancer cells is designated. For each permutation, whether inhibition of the k-th non-core reaction together with inhibition of all previously deleted non-core reactions results in inhibition of any of the core reactions or results in inhibition of the flux of biomass metabolites to biomass is determined. If inhibition of the k-th non-core reaction and inhibition of all previously deleted non-core reactions does not result in inhibition of any core reactions and does not result in inhibition of the flux of biomass metabolites to biomass, then the k-th non-core reaction is deleted from the set of non-core reactions. The number of permutations for which the k-th non-core reaction is not deleted is determined and a metabolic map is then created based on that number.

    Abstract: A ultra high speed photonic Analog to Digital Converted (ADC) for sampling and quantizing an electrical voltage signal, internally enabled by photonics uses coherent optical detection architectures for photonic quantization.     Abstract: A method and system are presented for reconstructing an input field where the latter is sensed by a measurement system. The method comprises: providing measured data corresponding to output field of said measurement system; providing data about sparsity of the input field, and data about effective response function of the measurement system; and processing the measured data based on said known data, the processing comprising: determining a sparse vector as a function of said measured data, said data about the sparsity of the input field, and said data about the effective response function; and using the sparse vector for reconstructing the input information. The invention allows for sub-wavelength resolution in imaging applications, and allows for detection of very short pulses by slow detectors in some other applications.
