摘要: A fourth allotrope of carbon, an acetylenic carbon allotrope, is described. The acetylenic carbon allotropes of the present invention are more soluble than the other known carbon allotropes in many common organic solvents and possesses other desirable characteristics, e.g. high electron density, ability to burn cleanly, and electrical conductive properties. Many uses for this fourth allotrope are described herein.

摘要: A mixture of graphite and diamond particles is suspended in a liquid. The mixture is applied between relatively moving metal surfaces. The diamond particles subsequently become embedded in the surface of the metal. The surface treatment and embedding by the diamond particles thereby increases the lubricity of the moving surfaces.

摘要: A a process for making a lubricious composition useful for preventing seizing of threaded fasteners in application to the threaded surface(s) thereof, comprising: (a) forming metal wire by drawing of metal source material through a wire drawing die; (b) lubricating the wire drawing die with an oil lubricant in forming the metal wire, to produce as a by-product thereof a metal flake/oil mixture; (c) separating the metal flake/oil mixture to recover a metal flake/oil suspension; and (d) formulating the metal flake/oil suspension in a metal flake-containing lubricant composition. The invention in another aspect relates to a product of such process. In a specific compositional aspect, the invention relates to a composition comprising an oil-based vehicle, 15%-35% by weight particulate metal (e.g., microscopic flake aluminum), based on the total weight of the composition, and 10%-30% by weight graphite, based on the total weight of the composition.

摘要: A bearing or other support member containing intercalated graphite exhibits many of the properties of a metal (ie: conductivity, luster, ductility) while enhancing the lubricating properties of pure graphite. The bearings are made by pressing an intercalated graphite powder either alone or mixed with metal powders, organic polymers or ceramic powders into the desired shape. This results in a bearing that has low friction properties, improved load bearing characteristics, higher operating temperatures and a reduced cost of manufacture.

摘要: A friction brake material contains fibers, graphite and a binder. All or part of the graphite is physically combined with one or more metals or alloys which are softer than steel to form a first combination or mixture. A separate combination or mixture is formed to include friction increasing fibers in a binder. Both mixtures are then combined to form the friction brake material which has an ability to cause substantially less creaking noise upon brake application as compared to differently prepared friction brake material.

摘要: Graphenic carbon nanoparticles that are dispersed in solvents through the use of dispersant resins are disclosed. The graphenic carbon nanoparticles may be milled prior to dispersion. The dispersant resins may comprise a polymeric dispersant resin comprising an addition polymer comprising the residue of a vinyl heterocyclic amide, an addition polymer comprising a homopolymer, a block (co)polymer, a random (co)polymer, an alternating (co)polymer, a graft (co)polymer, a brush (co)polymer, a star (co)polymer, a telechelic (co)polymer, or a combination thereof. The solvents may be aqueous, non-aqueous, inorganic and/or organic solvents. The dispersions are highly stable and may contain relatively high loadings of the graphenic carbon nanoparticles.
