Abstract: In one embodiment, the invention provides a method of treating a subject who suffers from a neoplasm (including a cancer such as a radiotherapeutic-resistant cancer) by administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of (a) 5-formyl-2′-deoxyuridine (fdU or foUdR) or a 5-formyl-2′-deoxyuridine derivative, optionally in combination with 5-hydroxy-2′-deoxyuridine (hUdR); and (b) at least one composition selected from the group consisting of either 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), a 5-FU prodrug (e.g. 5-fluoro-2′-deoxyuridine (FdU)) or 5-FU metabolite. In a preferred embodiment, a subject who suffers from colorectal cancer (CRC) or metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) is treated with a therapeutically-effective amount of fdU and either 5-FU or the 5-FU prodrug 5-fluoro-2′-deoxyuridine (FdU). Related pharmaceutical compositions are also provided.

Abstract: Improved Raman Fiber Laser (RFL) generators may include a mid-infrared fiber, e.g., a fiber comprising a tellurite glass, a chalcogenide glass, a fluoride glass, or similar material. A phase-shifted fiber Bragg grating may be inscribed in the fiber. A pump laser generator may be coupled with the fiber in order to supply a pump laser to the fiber. When stimulated by the pump laser, the RFL generator may emit an output laser having a mid-infrared wavelength. A tuner may be used to tune the output laser.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to protocells, which have a core and a lipid bilayer surrounding the core, with at least one CD47 molecule or an active fragment thereof in or conjugated to the lipid bilayer. The CD47 present on the lipid bilayer allows the protocell to evade phagocytosis by macrophages, and can be conjugated to the lipid bilayer via a crosslinker. The protocell can be loaded with a diagnostic or therapeutic cargo, such as a polypeptide, a nucleic acid, or a drug. The protocell can also include a targeting species for targeted delivery of the cargo to a cell. The protocell can also include an endosomolytic peptide, which promotes endosomal escape after uptake by the targeted cell. The protocells with CD47 on the lipid bilayer provide better circulation after in vivo administration compared to protocells without CD47, and are therefore particularly useful as a cargo delivery vehicle.

Abstract: A Hardware-Embedded Delay Physical Unclonable Function (“HELP PUF”) leverages entropy by monitoring path stability and measuring path delays from core logic macros. Reliability and security enhancing techniques for the HELP PUF reduce bit flip errors during regeneration of the bitstring across environmental variations and improve cryptographic strength along with the corresponding difficulty of carrying out model building attacks. A voltage-based enrollment process screens unstable paths on normally synthesized (glitchy) functional units and reduces bit flip errors by carrying out enrollment at multiple supply voltages controlled using on-chip voltage regulators.

Abstract: This disclosure describes, in one aspect, a method for preparing DNA molecule for sequencing. Generally, the method includes fragmenting the DNA molecule into double-stranded fragments; amplifying at least a portion of the double-stranded fragments; circularizing the fragments so that the first end of the fragment comprises a first loop connecting the strands and the second end of the fragment comprises a second loop connecting the strands; annealing a first sequencing primer to the first loop oriented to sequence at least a portion of one strand of the fragment; and annealing a second sequencing primer to the second loop oriented to sequence at least a portion of the other strand of the fragment. In another aspect, this disclosure describes a method for sequencing a DNA molecule. Generally, the method includes fragmenting the DNA molecule into double-stranded fragments; amplifying at least a portion of the double-stranded fragments; circularizing the fragments so that the first end of the fragment comprises a first loop connecting the strands and the second end of the fragment comprises a second loop connecting the strands; and sequencing at least one of the DNA strands.
