Abstract: A nanostructure fabricated on a semiconductor light-emitting device induces strain in the active region. The active device includes at least one quantum heterostructure, in which the strain changes the extent of Quantum Confined Stark Effect, and thus modifies the wavelength of light emission. By mixing strain relaxation and strain induction effects there is a spectral broadening of the light emission, providing polychromatic light emission.

Abstract: An optical-resolution photoacoustic microscopy (OR-PAM) system for visualizing water content deep in biological tissue uses an all-fiber 1930-nm hybrid optical parametrically-oscillating emitter. The emitter includes a tunable laser source whose output is amplified by a first erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA). The output of the first amplifier is modulated with a Mach-Zehnder amplitude modulator that receives an RF signal with a nanosecond pulse width and a multiple kilohertz repetition rate. A second EDFA further amplifies the signal and passes it to a fiber circulator that in turn delivers it to a 1950/1550 mm fiber wavelength-division-multiplexing coupler WDM. The coupler introduces the signal to a cavity that includes a spool of highly nonlinear fiber and a Thulium-doped fiber amplifier TDFA. From the TDFA the signal reaches a 50/50 fiber coupler that sends part to a second output TDFA and guides part back to the cavity through a port of the WDM.

Abstract: Provided herein are novel ortho-Phthalaldehyde (OPA) containing linkers (OPA-L) and the use of OPA-L for the preparation of Antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) via the formation of Phthalimidine through the reaction of primary amine on antibody (e.g., residue of Lysine) and ortho-Phthalaldehyde. The advantage of this OPA-L is high reactivity and can be applied in different types of antibodies to form stably-linked conjugates. The use of OPA-L for the preparation of ADC is advantageous for mild and wide condition of conjugation, for instance, low percentage of organic solvent required, wide range of pH and temperature can be used.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for generating droplets with a high level of uniformity in liquid systems that present a low interfacial tension. This method and apparatus utilize the breakup of the dispersed phase in a controlled fashion by periodically varying the pressure that drives the fluids so as to successfully generate emulsions with a good control over the size. The method and apparatus can be used for the formation of simple emulsion or double emulsion where a larger droplet contains one or more smaller droplets.
