Abstract: Provided acoustic devices include an external housing defining an expansion chamber and a wall extending through and partitioning the expansion chamber into a central chamber and a peripheral chamber adjacent the central chamber, wherein an inlet and outlet communicate with the central chamber, and wherein the wall includes a plurality of apertures formed therethrough to allow air movement to and from the central and expansion chambers, the plurality of apertures sized to provide an average flow resistance ranging from 100 MKS Rayls to 5000 MKS Rayls. The acoustic devices advantageously show significant sound attenuation while streamlining air flow to reduce pressure drop across the expansion chamber.

Abstract: A multilayer damping material for damping a vibrating surface comprising: at least one constraining layer; at least one dissipating layer; and at least one kinetic spacer layer comprising multiple spacer elements. The kinetic spacer layer is arranged between the constraining layer and the vibrating surface, when used for damping the vibrating surface. Each spacer element has opposite ends. At least one end of each of the multiple spacer elements is embedded in, bonded to, in contact with, or in close proximity to the dissipating layer, such that energy is dissipated within the multilayer damping material, through movement of the at least one end of each of the multiple spacer elements.

Abstract: An incrementally activated laminate that includes an incrementally activated fibrous web and a film having alternating first and second regions and a laminate of the film and an extensible fibrous web. The first region of the film includes a first polymeric composition, and the second regions include an elastic polymeric composition that is more elastic than the first polymeric composition. In the incrementally activated laminate, the distance between midpoints of two first regions separated by one second region is smaller than the activation pitch, and the first regions are not plastically deformed. In the extensible laminate, a tensile elongation at maximum load of the film is up to 250 percent of the tensile elongation at maximum load of the extensible fibrous web. Methods of making the laminates are also described.

Abstract: A film having first and second segments alternating across the film's width direction. The second segments are more elastic than the first segments, and a force required to stretch the second segments is less than a force required to stretch the first segments. At least some of the first segments have apertures through their thicknesses, and a percentage of area of the first segments occupied by the apertures is greater than a percentage of area occupied by any apertures that may extend through the second segments. Laminates and absorbent articles including such films are also disclosed. A method of making the film is also described.

Abstract: Composite polymeric comprising, in order, first, second, and third polymeric layers. The first layer is compositionally different than the second layer. The third layer is compositionally different than the second layer. The second layer comprises an array of void spaces therein, but not through the first and second major surfaces. The void spaces each have a series of areas through the void spaces ranging from minimum to maximum areas. The minimum area is not adjacent to either the first or third layer. Methods for making the composite polymeric layers are also disclosed. Polymeric layers described herein are useful, for example, as components in personal care garments such as diapers and feminine hygiene products. They can also be useful for filtering (including liquid filtering) and acoustic applications.

Abstract: A coated abrasive disc includes a disc backing having an outer circumference. An abrasive layer is disposed on the disc backing. The abrasive layer comprises triangular abrasive platelets secured to a major surface of the disc backing by at least one binder material. The triangular abrasive platelets are outwardly disposed at regularly-spaced points along a spiral pattern extending outwardly toward the outer circumference. Each triangular abrasive platelet has respective top and bottom surfaces connected to each other, and separated by, three sidewalls. On a respective basis, one sidewall of at least 90 percent of the triangular abrasive platelets is disposed facing and proximate to the disc backing, and at least 70 percent of the triangular abrasive platelets are disposed in a recurring sequential orientation having an oscillating Z-axis rotational orientation of the first respective sidewall relative to the tangents to the spiral pattern at regularly-spaced points. Methods of making and using the coated abrasive disc are also disclosed.

Abstract: A coated abrasive belt (100) includes a belt backing (110) and an abrasive layer disposed thereon. The abrasive layer comprises abrasive elements (160) secured to at least a portion of a major surface of the belt backing (110) by at least one binder material. The abrasive elements are disposed at contiguous intersections of horizontal (192) and vertical lines (194) of a rectangular grid pattern. Each abrasive element has at least two triangular abrasive platelets (130), each having respective top and bottom surfaces connected to each other, and separated by, three sidewalls. On a respective basis, one sidewall of the triangular abrasive platelets is disposed facing and proximate to the belt backing A first portion of the abrasive elements is arranged in alternating first rows (16) wherein the triangular abrasive platelets are disposed lengthwise aligned with the vertical lines (194). A second portion of the abrasive elements is arranged in alternating second rows (168) wherein the triangular abrasive platelets (130) are disposed lengthwise aligned with the horizontal lines (194). The first and second rows repeatedly alternate along the vertical lines. Methods of making and using the coated abrasive belt are also disclosed.
