Abstract:
The invention relates to reconstituted surfactants consisting of artificial phospholipids and peptides able to lower the air-liquid surface tension, more particularly to reconstituted surfactants, comprising special phospholipid mixtures and artificial peptides which are analogues of the natural surfactant SP-C protein for the treatment of respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) and other diseases relates to pulmonary surfactant dysfunctions.
Abstract:
A plurality of transistor cells (36) formed on a semiconductor substrate (32) are connected to form a radio frequency power transistor device (30), whereby individual conductive paths (38) are formed on one side of the substrate (32) to connect respective common gate terminals (34) of adjacent transistor cells (36) in series. A further conductive path (40) is formed on an opposite side of the substrate connecting respective drain terminals (35) of the transistor cells (36) in parallel. A resistive element (42) is interposed in the conductive path (38) connecting each adjacent pair of gate terminals (34). The conductivity of the respective resistive elements (42) is selected so as to adequately provide a conductive pathway for connecting the respective gate terminal outputs, while being sufficiently resistive such that each gate terminal 34 "sees" an electrical circuit termination.
Abstract:
A reset and synchronization interface circuit for use in a subscriber power controller includes a reset circuit portion and a synchronization circuit portion. The reset circuit portion is formed of a first comparator, a second comparator, and an output network for generating a reset signal. The first comparator compares an input signal with the reference voltage to produce a first output signal and a second output signal. The second comparator compares the first output signal from the first comparator with the reference voltage to produce a third output signal. The output network inverts and shifts the level of the third output signal to produce the reset signal. The synchronization circuit portion is formed of a third comparator and an AND logic gate for generating a modified synchronizing signal. The third comparator inverts a synchronizing clock signal to generate a complementary synchronizing clock signal. The AND logic gate combines logically the second output signal from the first comparator with the complementary synchronizing clock signal to produce the modified synchronizing signal.
Abstract:
In order to be able to regulate in a simple and reliable manner the quantity of liquid that is administered to a patient through a hose in an infusion device, there is provided, according to the invention, a motor-driven eccentric, which presses the hose against a blocking device and clamps it off to a greater or lesser degree. The blocking device forms a part of at least one guide for the hose and can assume two positions. In one of the positions the guide is released; in the other position it is closed. A lever mounted with freedom to rotate, which can be spring-loaded, is particularly well suited for the blocking device. In addition, a clamping lever which can be activated through an electromagnetic latch, can be provided as an emergency stop.
Abstract:
A method and a combination for the cultivation of eukaryotic cells are provided, as well as a method for preparation of eukaryotic cells. The methods comprise providing a sample of eukaryotic cells to be cultured, applying said sample to a cell scaffold material; and maintaining said cell scaffold material having cells applied thereto under conditions suitable for cell culture. The combination comprises eukaryotic cells and a cell scaffold material. The cell scaffold material comprises a polymer of a spider silk protein.
Abstract:
A dental instrument, suitable for use when creating a dental filling, is provided. The dental instrument includes a wedge and a matrix. The matrix is fixedly attached to the wedge, and the wedge is adapted to be inserted into the approximal space between two teeth of a patient. The wedge has a bow shape along a length axis of the wedge, the matrix has a first bow shape along a length axis of the matrix, and the matrix also has a second bow shape along an axis perpendicular to the length axis of the matrix. A method of using the dental instrument and a disposable system, which further comprises a protective member, is further provided.
Abstract:
An isolated protein is provided for use in treatment of a condition selected from the group consisting of Alzheimer's disease, familial Danish dementia and familial British dementia in a mammal, including man. The isolated protein is selected from the group consisting of proteins comprising an amino acid sequence having at least 70% identity to residues 90-236 of Bri2 from human; and proteins comprising an amino acid sequence having at least 70% identity to any one of the Brichos domains of Bri2 from human, chimpanzee, bovine, pig, mouse and rat.
Abstract:
A method of producing polymers of an isolated spider silk protein involves providing a solution of said spider silk protein in a liquid medium at pH 6.4 or higher and/or an ion composition that prevents polymerization of the spider silk protein. The properties of the liquid medium are adjusted to a pH of 6.3 or lower and an ion composition that allows polymerization of the spider silk protein. The spider silk protein is allowed to form polymers in the liquid medium, and the resulting spider silk protein polymers are isolated from the liquid medium. The resulting polymers are useful as fibers, films, foams, nets or meshes.
Abstract:
In various embodiments, lined underground reservoirs and/or insulated pipeline vessels are utilized for storage of compressed fluid in conjunction with energy storage and recovery systems.
Abstract:
The present invention provides novel lipid mixtures for synthetic surfactants. In particular, the invention provides a specific lipid mixture containing a specific amount of polyunsaturated phospholipids to be used for the preparation of synthetic surfactants. Said surfactants and pharmaceutical compositions thereof are useful for the treatment of surfactant deficiencies like respiratory distress syndrome (RDS).
