Abstract: A computer system comprising processing circuitry configured to obtain topographic data containing information about the topography of the road along which a heavy-duty vehicle is currently travelling, the topographic data including information about an upcoming downhill slope; acquire prediction data indicative of the braking requirements for the upcoming downhill slope, the braking requirements including how much brake power and/or brake energy that will be needed in the upcoming downhill slope to maintain the speed of the heavy-duty vehicle at or below a selected speed limit of the heavy-duty vehicle throughout the travel in the downhill slope; determine a brake blending combination which allows a Selective Catalytic Reduction System (SCR) of the heavy-duty vehicle to be kept as warm as possible while still fulfilling the braking requirements; and apply the determined brake blending combination to the heavy-duty vehicle while travelling along the downhill slope.

while operating the engine in the four-stroke operation mode, identifying that a critical situation applies or is expected to apply, in which a fast downshift of the transmission is required,
initiating a downshift process in response to the identification of the critical situation,
during at least a part of the downshift process, increasing an engine speed by controlling at least the mutually independently operable valves of the engine such that the engine is temporarily operated in a two-stroke operation mode.-

Abstract: A method for controlling operation of a vehicle. The method includes: providing information on geographical position of a first (starting) location and a second (destination) location and on length and topography for at least one possible route to be taken by the vehicle from the first location to the second location; calculating, based on vehicle conditions and on length and topography for the at least one possible route, a plan for how to control the powertrain system to achieve an energy efficient performance of the powertrain system if driving the vehicle along said at least one possible route. The method further includes: setting the vehicle in a non-drive off mode that prevents the vehicle from driving off from the first location, and setting the vehicle in a normal operation mode that allows drive off from the first location when calculating the plan has been carried out.

Abstract: A device and a method for controlling vehicle speed in a vehicle equipped with brake cruise control when the vehicle is travelling downhill are provided. The method involves driving a vehicle downhill with the brake set speed set to a first brake set speed; detecting a current vehicle speed; automatically applying a brake torque using at least an auxiliary brake to maintain the first brake set speed; and detecting a manual application of a vehicle service brake, in order to decrease vehicle speed. If a control unit detects that the driver is applying the service brake, then the control unit is automatically arranged to set the brake set speed to a second brake set speed that is lower than the first brake set speed; and to apply a brake torque using at least the auxiliary brake if a detected current vehicle speed exceeds the second brake set speed.
