Abstract:
A trim structure for a vehicle includes at least two surface regions having different surface appearances and is manufactured in one unit. A method for providing a trim structure for a vehicle with at least two surface regions having different surface appearances comprises the steps of: a) providing a first surface appearance on at least a portion of an external surface of a trim structure body; b) providing a second surface appearance by applying a material layer on top of at least a part of the at least a portion having the first surface appearance; and c) removing a portion of the applied material layer, thereby revealing at least a portion of the under-lying first surface appearance.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for treating layers are provided that use a plasma zone sealed from the outer atmospheric pressure. The apparatus includes a plasma reactor with a substrate carrier in form of a container receiving device and a closing element that is joined with the substrate carrier by a lifting device.
Abstract:
The present invention is related to a method or the deposition of a chlorinated polymeric layer onto a ubstrate, said method comprising the steps of:—generating a plasma in a gaseous medium by means of a plasma device;—placing the substrate in contact with the plasma, or in the post-plasma area;—introducing in said plasma or in the post-plasma area a chlorinated precursor of the chlorinated polymer.
Abstract:
A hard, transparent coating for a substrate and associated method for coating is disclosed. The coating includes alternating layers of a soft coating and a hard coating. The coating further includes a sensor. The electrical resistivity of the sensor may be measured to determine if the coating has been degraded. The coating may further include a hydrophobic outer layer.
Abstract:
A method for forming a protective coat upon an article includes forming a liquid coating mixture comprising a cross-linking agent and a polymer dissolved within a solvent; applying a first coat of the coating mixture upon the article; evaporating the solvent from the first coat; and cross-linking the article. Also disclosed is a device containing an exterior surface at least partially covered by a coating comprising a cross-linked polymer and a filler material that is selected from the group consisting of a fullerene, a micro-encapsulated material, and a combination of two or more thereof.
Abstract:
The formation of a barrier layer within individual channels or cavities of a microfluidic device is described. The barrier layer is effected through a gas phase deposition process, desirably implemented in a plasma environment using a gas plasma reactor. Judicious selection of a precursor compound used within the gas plasma reactor can provide for generation of a layer on the individual surfaces. Desirably the surface or barrier layer is generated through the chemical adsorption of a metalloid oxide such as a silicon oxide layer on the surface of the individual channels or cavities.
Abstract:
Apparatus for application of primer with the aid of vacuum, includes a reservoir (26) for liquid primer, an applicator nozzle (14) having an applicator chamber (16) and a suction chamber (18), a supply system (24, 26) for supplying primer from the reservoir (28) to the applicator chamber (16), a suction system (30, 32) for withdrawing air and primer from the suction chamber (18) and a separator (34) for separating primer from the withdrawn air and recirculating the separated primer into the reservoir (28), wherein the separator (34) is a cyclone.
Abstract:
A vapor deposited film is formed on a base material surface by a plasma CVD method where an organic metal compound and an oxidizing gas are used as a reactive gas. The vapor deposited film has three sections of a base material side adhesive layer having 5% or more carbon, a barrier intermediate layer having less than 5% carbon, and a surface protection film having 5% or more carbon, by element concentration with respect to the total amount of three elements of a metal element (M), oxygen (O) and carbon (C) derived from the organic metal compound. The vapor deposited film has excellent adhesiveness to the base material, and has excellent resistance to water, especially to alkaline aqueous solutions, as well.
Abstract:
A multi-layered golf ball having a core, moisture vapor barrier layer, and outer cover, wherein the moisture barrier layer is preferably made from a non-ionomeric polyolefin composition is disclosed. The moisture barrier layer is applied at very low thickness, preferably in the range of 0.0001 to 0.010 inches, so that the playing performance properties of the ball are not altered. Preferably, the moisture vapor barrier layer is applied over the core material using powder coating or solution coating methods.
Abstract:
A method is provided for making a high repellency material. In one embodiment the method includes the steps of providing a polymeric material having an external surface including particle-like nanotopography, etching the external surface with a high energy treatment; and depositing a fluorochemical onto the etched external surface by a plasma fluorination process.
