摘要:
Some embodiments provide methods and systems for casting articles. One example of a method includes providing and positioning a thermal blanket within a mold cavity and then introducing a molten material into the mold cavity and into contact with the thermal blanket. The method allows the molten material to remain in a molten state during a dwell time that extends from the introduction of the molten material at least until the mold cavity is filled. In another example, a method of using a thermal blanket includes keeping a molten material in a molten state during a dwell time extending from first introduction of the molten material until pressurization. Systems including a variety of mold types, one or more thermal blankets, and in some cases preforms and/or inserts are also provided. Also described is a novel thermal blanket and method of manufacturing the same.

A method for continuous production of a thermally insulating mixture comprising silica particles and opacifier particles, in which a premixed stream comprising a carrier gas, silica particles and opacifier particles is introduced into a fine impact mill, ground and mixed therein, after which the solid is separated from the gas stream, wherein the fine impact mill is an air-stream mill comprising grinding tracks arranged one above the other on a rotatable shaft.

The present invention relates to method of manufacturing an aircraft interior panel comprising a core sandwiched between first and second skins, wherein both of the first and second skins are formed from natural fibres containing non-halogenated fire-retardant and set within an inorganic thermoset resin, thereby forming a fire-resistant sustainable aircraft interior panel. The method comprises impregnating the natural fibres with non-halogenated fire retardant and an inorganic thermoset resin, and laying up the resin-impregnated natural fibres to sandwich the core. This stack is then cured by raising the temperature of the stack sufficient to initiate curing but without reaching the boiling point of water in the stack, holding the stack at that first temperature before raising the temperature again to reach the boiling point of water in the stack, before cooling the stack.

A hybrid fiber consists of a continuous phase base material that permeates the length of the hybrid fiber and a plurality of fibrils or nanotubes that are dispersed throughout the hybrid fiber interior in the form of a yarn woven from the plurality of fibrils or nanotubes. The method of making the hybrid fiber involves coating the yarn with the continuous phase base material and infusing the continuous phase base material into the plurality of fibrils or nanotubes that form the yarn.

Method for manufacturing an aerogel-containing composite, said method comprising the steps of: providing fibres, at least some of which are first fibres, such as mineral fibres, polymer fibres, cellulose fibres, or other types of fibres, in an amount of from 3 to 80 wt % of the total weight of starting materials, providing an aerogel particulate material in an amount of from 10 to 75 wt % of the total weight of starting materials, providing a binder in an amount of from 1 to 30 wt % of the total weight of starting materials, suspending the fibres in a primary air flow and suspending the aerogel particulate material in the primary air flow, thereby mixing the suspended aerogel particulate material with the suspended fibres, mixing the binder with the fibres and/or aerogel particulate material before, during or after mixing of the fibres with the aerogel particulate material, collecting the mixture of fibres, aerogel particulate material and binder and pressing and curing the mixture to provide a consolidated composite with a density of from 120 kg/m3 to 800 kg/m3. With this method homogeneous composites can be produced.

An exhaust gas treatment device includes a housing, a fragile element disposed within the housing, and a mounting mat disposed between the fragile element and the housing for maintaining the positioning of the fragile element, absorbing mechanical shock, and providing thermal insulation. The mounting mat includes a layer or sheet of inorganic fibers with a portion of the layer having a first basis weight and another portion having a second basis weight that is different from the first basis weight. The mat or a vacuum formed insulating pre-form having a variable basis weight in certain regions may be used as end cone insulation in exhaust gas treatment devices.

Calcium-phosphate nanofiber matrices comprising randomly dispersed crystalline calcium-phosphate nanofibers are provided. The nanofibers are synthesized using sol-gel methods combined with electrospinning The nanofibers may be hollow, solid or may comprise a calcium-phosphate shell surrounding a polymer containing inner core to which biologically functional additives may be added. The nanofiber matrices may be used to culture bone and dental cells, and as implants to treat bone, dental or periodontal diseases and defects.
