    摘要: The invention relates to a drier for an air drying auto-oxidisable resin composition comprising a polymer comprising unsaturated fatty acid residues, the drier comprising a manganese triaza complex comprising the following structure: wherein R1=C1-C20alkyl optionally substituted with heteroatoms, or C6-C20aryl optionally substituted with heteroatoms; X and Y are independently selected from O and OC(R2)O, in which a=4 when X=O, and a=3 when X=OC(R2)O, and in which b=4 when Y=O, and b=3 when Y=OC(R2)O; Wherein R2=C1-C20alkyl optionally substituted with heteroatoms, C6-C20 aryl optionally substituted with heteroatoms, or a polymeric residue, and one or more anions, being chosen PF6-, SbF6—, AsF6-, BF4—, B(C6F5)4—, Cl—, Br—, I—, NO3—, or R3COO— or SO42−, and wherein R3 is C1-C20alkyl optionally substituted with heteroatoms, C6-C20aryl 1optionally substituted with heteroatoms, or a polymeric residue, and wherein the drier comprises an additional amount of, 4,7-trialkyl-1,4,7-triazacyclononane; wherein the 1,4,7-trialkyl-1,4,7-triazacyclononane (L) is present in an amount such that the molar ratio of L:Mn is at least 1.25:1 and preferably at least 1.5:1.

    摘要: Multi-stage polymer particles containing one or more void space(s) therein are produced by sequential emulsion polymerization of an essentially low-acid earlier polymer stage, encapsulation of said low-acid polymer stage with at least a final polymer stage, contacting said polymer particles with a non-polymeric carboxylic acid to permit the acid to be absorbed into said low-acid polymer stage and swelling the polymer particles by contacting the particles with an aqueous base. The low-acid polymer stage is formed by emulsion polymerizing a monomer system comprising ethylenically unsaturated monomer(s) and containing less than 5% by weight of monomer(s) containing acid functionality. The low-acid polymer stage is subsequently encapsulated by one or more polymer stages by emulsion polymerizing ethylenically unsaturated monomer(s) in the presence of the low-acid polymer stage. The final stage has a glass transition temperature (Tg) of about 50.degree. C. or greater, and the total polymer stages having a Tg of about 50.degree. C. or greater comprise about 60% or more by weight of the polymer particles. A non-polymeric carboxylic acid is absorbed into the polymer particles and the resultant particles are contacted with base at a pH sufficient to swell the particles with water at a temperature near or above the Tg of the neat polymer or plasticized polymer of the final polymer stage. When dried the particles contain void space(s) therein which produce(s) opacity in compositions in which the particles are contained.

    摘要: A high gloss, water base, pigmented latex is provided by grinding a pigment into a water-free solution of a carboxyl-functional addition copolymer of monoethylenically unsaturated monomers including at least about 3% by weight of monoethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid in water miscible organic solvent, the copolymer being at least partially neutralized with an amine, particularly an hydroxy amine, to render the said copolymer dispersible in water, and thereby form a nonaqueous pigment paste, and then mixing the nonaqueous pigment paste with an aqueous latex. The invention includes the latex paint so-produced.

    摘要: Adhesive dressing compositions are disclosed which are useful in restoring and improving adhesive joint surfaces such as grout surfaces in ceramic tile installations by easy, efficient methods. Such compositions form stain resistant, water repellent, washable coverings which adhere to most adhesive surfaces and further have properties of preferential adherability to certain adhesive surfaces compared with adjacent adherend surfaces. The compositions comprise a polymer in the form of an emulsion, an alkali-thickenable polymer, an alkaline material and water with other components including pigments, plasticizers and solvents.
