Abstract:
Shoes for operatively connecting a swash-plate with the compression pistons of a swash-plate type compressor are made from a novel Cu-based alloy. Improved shoes are characterized by a combination of high heat conductivity and excellent wear resistance properties particularly when subjected to a lubricating condition so severe that no lubricating oil is supplied to the surface of the shoes at the initial period of the compressor operation. At least three alloying elements are selected from Mn, Si, Pb, Sn, the IVb and VIb groups of the periodic table, and added in predetermined amounts to the Cu-based alloy, so that the properties mentioned above are simultaneously obtained. The compressor according to the present invention can be reliably employed, without the occurrence of seizure over a long operational period for air-conditioning vehicles, in which the sliding condition of the shoes is drastically varied with the rotation of the engine.

Abstract:
A conveyor roller and support assembly for conveying and guiding a belt or the like along a predetermined path of travel. Means are provided by which a roller can be conveniently relocated or removed from the system which includes a pluraltty of fingers extending from the body of the roller terminating in an inwardly turn lip capable of being seated within any one of a number of complementary grooves formed in the roller support member.
Abstract:
A piston engine comprises a cylinder defining a combustion chamber, a ringless piston reciprocally mounted within the cylinder, the cylinder having means spaced from the combustion chamber and defining a zone of reduced clearance around the piston. This zone-defining means includes means for lubricating the zone to reduce friction. The lubricating means may comprise a gas-flow arrangement, or a bushing formed of self-lubricating material, or both of these features. The cylinder and piston are fabricated from materials having a maximum coefficient of thermal expansion of 30 X 10 7/* C. The engine may include a compressor piston reiprocal in a compressor cylinder which are designed for minimal heat expansion.
Abstract:
HIGH TEMPERATURE NICKEL BASE ALLOYS ARE METALLIZED WITH A MIXTURE OF POWDERS CONSISTING OF 60-90 WEIGHT PERCENT ALUMINUM AND 10-40 WEIGHT PERCENT TUNGSTEN. THE COATED ALLOYS ARE SUBJECTED TO A DIFFUSION HEAT TREATMENT TO FORM A TUNGSTEN-MODIFIED, ALUMINUM-RICH INTERMETALLIC. DISPERSION STRENGTHENED NICKEL BASE ALLOYS ARE COATED WITH A LAYER OF NICKEL AND SUBJECTED TO A DIFFUSION HEAT TREATMENT PRIOR TO APPLICATION OF THE ALUMINUM-TUNGSTEN MIXTURE.
Abstract:
An internal combustion engine having combustion chamber wall surfaces coated with a heat insulating base layer including nickel and aluminum for retarding heat transfer by conduction and an outer layer including copper for reflecting infrared radiation, and a method for applying said coating to the combustion chamber wall surfaces of the engine.
Abstract:
A rotary compressor includes: a compressing unit that includes an annular cylinder, an end plate, an annular piston which is fit in an eccentric portion of a rotation shaft, and a vane which protrudes from the inside of a vane groove of the cylinder to the inside of an operation chamber, comes into contact with the annular piston, and partitions the operation chamber into an inlet chamber and a compression chamber. The vane is formed of steel and has a diamond-like carbon layer formed on a sliding surface with respect to the annular piston. The annular piston is formed of Ni—Cr—Mo cast iron to which 0.15 wt % to 0.45 wt % of phosphorus is added, or is formed of cast iron or steel and has an iron nitride layer formed on an outer circumferential surface thereof.
Abstract:
Carbon dioxide compressors having one or more coatings with wear surfaces having electroless surface coatings are provided. Alternatively, propane compressors are contemplated having wear surface coatings. The coating is electrolessly applied and may comprise nickel and wear resistant particles, such as boron nitride. The electroless surface coatings for use with compressor machines improve corrosion and wear resistance, as well as anti-friction properties for compressors processing CO2 or C3H8 containing refrigerants. In certain aspects, a scroll machine has an Oldham coupling and/or lower bearing comprising aluminum and has an electroless surface coating comprising nickel boron nitride particles disposed on one or more wear surfaces. In other aspects, a reciprocating compressor has a wear surface, such as on a connecting rod and/or piston coated with an electrolessly applied nickel and boron nitride particle layer. Methods for making the electroless surface coatings are also provided.
Abstract:
In a Ni-base alloy, an area-equivalent diameter D is calculated. D is defined by D=A1/2 from an area A of a largest nitride in a field of view when an observation area S0 is observed. This process is repeated in n fields of view for measurement, where n is the number of the fields of view for measurement, so as to acquire n pieces of data on D, and the pieces are arranged in ascending order D1, D2, . . . , Dn to obtain a reduced variate yj. The obtained values are plotted on X-Y axis coordinates, where an X axis corresponds to D and a Y axis corresponds to yj. In a regression line yj=a×D+b, yj is obtained when a target cross-sectional area S is set to 100 mm2. When the obtained yj is substituted into the regression line, the estimated nitride maximum size is ≦25 μm in diameter.
