    摘要： A process is provided for enhancing reproductive performance in a companion animal such as a dog or cat by feeding the animal a diet including omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids in a ratio of from about 3.5:1 to about 12.5:1. When an animal is fed the diet of the present invention, the essential fatty acid status in the animal is maintained, and litter size is maintained through subsequent parities.

    摘要： A process for removing nitrogenous wastes from animals with hepatic disease is provided and includes the steps of feeding an animal a diet consisting essentially of a pet food composition containing fermentable fibers which have an organic matter disappearance of from about 15 to about 60 percent when fermented by fecal bacteria for a 24 hour period, said fibers being present in amounts from about 1 to about 11 percent by weight of supplemental total dietary fiber, and maintaining the animal on that diet for a sufficient period of time to allow the fermentable fibers to ferment in the colon of the animal to enhance bacterial activity and provide an acidic environment in said colon for trapping the nitrogenous wastes for excretion through the feces of the animal.

More specifically to a sterilizing process designed to be used in an aseptic process that comprises the steps of transferring said food composition into a heating unit; passing an electric current through said composition; maintaining a power to mass flow rate range through said heating unit from about 125 kJoules/kg to about 750 kJoules/kg; adjusting a flow rate to maintain said food composition temperature exiting the heating unit from about 75° C. to about 175° C.; and cooling said food composition to a final temperature from about 5° C. to 100° C.
