摘要: A self light emitting device having a function of correcting drops in brightness in self light emitting elements in a pixel portion, and capable of displaying a uniform image without brightness irregularities, is provided. A specific test pattern is displayed when an electric power source is connected, brightnesses are detected by photoelectric conversion elements arranged in each pixel, and then stored in a memory circuit. A correction circuit then corrects a first image signal based on portions which are insufficient from standard brightnesses (brightnesses of normal self light emitting elements at the same gray stale, stored in advance), and a second image signal is obtained. Display of an image in a display device is performed in accordance with the second image signal.

摘要: A method of efficiently forming a circuit using a thin film transistor with a semiconductor layer in which preferable crystallinity is obtained is provided. A location on which stress concentrates according to crystallization of a semiconductor layer formed on a substrate having unevenness corresponds to the edges and their vicinities of the unevenness provided on the substrate, that is, the boundary between a concave portion and a convex portion and its vicinities. Thus, the location in which stress concentration is caused can be specified and controlled according to the shape of a slit-shaped base layer. In addition, an island-like semiconductor layer (1305) which becomes the active layer of a TFT is formed on the concave portion or the convex portion of the substrate having the unevenness. At this time, at least a portion which becomes the channel formation region of the TFT is formed without crossing the boundary between the concave portion and the convex portion. Such TFTs are used in parallel to construct a TFT having a large channel width so that fluctuation in electrical characteristics is averaged.

摘要: In order to increase the continuous operating time of a display device driven by a battery or the like, and a portable information terminal using the same, the volume and weight of the battery are increased. Thus, there arises a trade-off between the increased capacity of the battery and the portability of the device/terminal. Therefore, the invention provides a display device with portability ensured, which is capable of operating continuously for long periods and a portable information terminal using the same. In the display device, TFTs and an RFID tag are formed over the same insulating substrate. The RFID tag detects signals from a reader/writer, and generates DC power based on the signals. While the RFID tag is detecting signals, the display device is driven by the DC power generated in the RFID tag.

The invention is a display device characterized by including a pixel portion which performs display based on a video signal and a driver circuit portion inputted with the video signal, wherein the driver circuit portion has a unit for controlling a grayscale in accordance with display of the pixel portion. In a liquid crystal display device, luminance of a lighting unit is controlled based on a signal from the unit for controlling a grayscale whereas a current supplied to a light emitting element is controlled in a light emitting device. By applying such a display device to a game machine, a realistic sensation can be improved.

摘要: The invention provides a display device and an electronic apparatus which can reduce power consumption in the case of being driven by using a digital time grayscale method. According to the invention, a row in which all the pixels display black is focused on in a plurality of pixels arranged in matrix, and sampling of data which is to be inputted to the pixels arranged in the row is not performed. Then, in a period during which the data sampling is not performed, the operation of a shift register in a source driver and sampling operation of a video signal in a first latch circuit are stopped. The invention which has the aforementioned characteristics can temporally stop operation of the source driver to reduce power consumption. In particular, the invention can stop operation of the source driver which consumes much power in the display device, leading to dramatic reduction in power consumption.

摘要: There is provided a semiconductor device in which fabrication steps can be reduced by constructing a circuit using only TFTs of one conductivity type and in which a voltage amplitude of an output signal can be normally obtained. A capacitance (205) is provided between a gate and a source of a TFT (203) connected to an output node, and a circuit formed of TFTs (201) and (202) has a function to bring a node a into a floating state. When the node α is in the floating state, a potential of the node a is caused higher than VDD by using gate-source capacitance coupling of the TFT (203) through the capacitance (205), thus an output signal having an amplitude of VDD-GND can be normally obtained without causing amplitude attenuation due to the threshold value of the TFT.

摘要: To provide a novel driving method for driving an electronic device by using digital gray scale and time gray scale in combination, which secures high duty ratio, which can display an image normally even when a sustain period is shorter than an address period, and which is hardly affected by dulled signal waveform. In a sub-frame period (102) where a sustain period is shorter than an address period, a clear period (105) is squeezed in between completion of a sustain period (104) and start of an address period of the subsequent sub-frame period. The length of the sustain period (104) thus can be set without being limited by the length of an address period (103). This non-display period is provided by changing the electric potential of a storage capacitor line. Therefore, unlike the case where the non-display period is provided by changing the electric potential of a cathode wiring, the present invention is hardly affected by dulled signal waveform.
