Abstract:
The present invention provides novel compositions prepared from a first oligomer containing reactive functional groups capable of reaction at effective rates (at normal processing temperatures) with a co-reactive second component oligomer possessing functionality that is complementary to that of the first oligomer. The compositions may be used as coatings, including hard surface coatings, clear coatings, powder coatings and pattern coatings; as adhesives, including pressure sensitive adhesives and hot melt adhesives; as sealants; as optical coatings; as blown microfibers (BMF); as high refractive index optical materials; as barrier films; in microreplication; as low adhesion backsizes, (LABs) and as release coatings.
Abstract:
An organic solvent-based heat-curable high solid coating composition comprising:(A) a carboxyl-containing compound having an acid value of 50 to 500 mg KOH/g wherein 20 mol % or more of the carboxyl groups are silylated carboxyl groups,(B) at least one epoxide selected from (B-1) an epoxy-, hydroxyl- and hydrolyzable alkoxysilyl-containing vinyl polymer, (B-2) the vinyl polymer (B-1) wherein 20 mol % or more of the hydroxyl groups are silylated hydroxyl groups, and (B-3) an epoxy compound having a number average molecular weight less than 1,000, and(C) a crosslinked particulate polymer, the composition having a solid content of 65 wt. % or more; and a method for forming a topcoat using the composition. The composition of the invention has a sufficiently high solid content, is capable of forming a coating film with high resistance to acids and the like, and is excellent in low-temperature curability, storage stability and recoat adhesion.

Abstract:
Ionomeric paint coatings are produced from an ionomeric polymer containing carboxyl functionality which is coreacted or neutralized with an organic zinc salt. The ionomeric polymer coreacted with a zinc organic salt functions as a binder and exhibits thermosetting-like properties.
Abstract:
A coating composition comprising an anhydride polymer (A) containing at least two cyclic carboxylic acid anhydride functional groups and a polymer (B) containing at least two functional groups reactive with anhydride groups and selected from hydroxyalkylamino, hydroxyalkoxyalkylamino, hydroxysubstituted acyloxyalkylamino, hydroxysubstituted polyacyloxyalkylamino, mercaptoalkylamino and oxazolidino groups. One of the polymers (A) and (B) comprises at least one flexible polymer chain selected from polyether, polyester, silicone, diene polymer, hydrogenated diene polymer, polyurethane, polyisobutylene and polyacrylate chains. The functional groups characteristic of that polymer are each present as a terminal group at the end of a flexible polymer chain.
Abstract:
A novel complexer for use in aqueous coating compositions formed from acidic resins, as well as the coating compositions, are described. The complexer is formed from a metal having a coordination value in excess of its valence and a polyalkylene polyamine along with, optionally, organic acids and cometals. The acidic resin, partially neutralized with ammonia, is added to the formed complexer to form the coating composition, a coordinate, which, upon drying, provides films which are water resistant and have excellent wet rub resistance. The coating compositions are particularly useful for inks, including gravure and flexographic inks.
