摘要: This document describes biochemical pathways for producing 2,3-dehydroadipyl-CoA methyl ester from precursors such as 2-oxoglutarate using one or more of a fatty acid O-methyltransferase, a thioesterase, a CoA-transferase and a CoA ligase, as well as recombinant hosts expressing one or more of such enzymes. 2,3-dehydroadipyl-CoA methyl ester can be enzymatically converted to adipyl-CoA using a trans-2-enoyl-CoA reductase, and a methylesterase, which in turn can be enzymatically converted to adipic acid, 6-aminohexanoate, 6-hydroxyhexanoate, caprolactam, hexamethylenediamine, or 1,6-hexanediol.

摘要: Processes, methods, and apparatus for carbon sequestration utilizing catalysis schemes configured to provide high concentrations of hydrated CO2 in proximity with a sequestration agent are provided. Reactants are combined with catalyst such that at least two regions of controlled catalytic activity form encompassing at least the interface between a sequestration agent and an aqueous solution containing dissolved CO2. Suitable reactants include various sequestration agents, catalyst, and carbon dioxide dissolved in an aqueous solution (seawater, for example). Possible products include bicarbonate and metal cations.

摘要: The present invention relates to mutated and/or transformed microorganisms for the synthesis of various compounds. More specifically, the present invention discloses microorganisms mutated in the genes encoding for the regulators ArcA and IclR. The latter mutations result in a significant upregulation of the genes that are part of the colanic acid operon. Hence, said microorganisms are useful for the synthesis of any compound being part of the colanic acid pathway such as GDP-fucose, GDP-mannose and colanic acid, and/or, can be further used—starting form GDP-fucose as a precursor—to synthesize fucosylated oligosaccharides or—starting from GDP-mannose as a precursor—to synthesize mannosylated oligosaccharides. In addition, mutations in the genes coding for the transcriptional regulators ArcA and IclR lead to an acid resistance phenotype in the exponential growth phase allowing the synthesis of pH sensitive molecules or organic acids.

摘要: Mixotrophic fermentation method performed to make one or more bioproducts such as alcohols, organic acids of less than 7 carbons, acetone, 2,3-butanediol and mixtures thereof with a microorganism. The mixotrophic fermentation method includes providing an isolated organism and providing a first feedstock and a second feedstock for use in a fermentation medium. The first feedstock includes a carbon source that is metabolized by the native form of the organism at a rate of less than 0.01 g/hr/g cell mass, and the second feedstock includes CO, CO2, carbonate, bicarbonate, H2, glycerol, methanol, formate, urea or mixtures thereof. The mixotrophic fermentation method also includes culturing the organism in the fermentation medium, whereby both feedstocks are metabolized and a fermentation broth is formed, the broth having at least one bioproduct. Optionally, the bioproduct may be separated from the broth.

摘要: Carbon-containing materials, such as biomass (e.g., plant biomass, animal biomass, and municipal waste biomass) or coal are processed to produce useful products, such as fuels, carboxylic acids and equivalents thereof (e.g., esters and salts). For example, systems are described that can use feedstock materials, such as cellulosic and/or lignocellulosic materials and/or starchy materials, to produce ethanol, butanol or organic acids (e.g., acetic or lactic acid), salts of organic acids or mixtures thereof. If desired, organic acids can be converted into alcohols, such as by first converting the acid, salt or mixtures of the acid and its salt to an ester, and then hydrogenating the formed ester. Acetogens or homoacetogens which are capable of utilizing a syngas from a thermochemical conversion of coal or biomass can be utilized to produce the desired product.
