    摘要: A control apparatus for use in an engine exhaust gas purification system which includes any combination of an EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) system, an exhaust gas oxidation reactor such as a catalyzer converter, a manifold reactor and/or an afterburner, and a secondary air injection system. The control apparatus comprises devices for detecting engine operating conditions in terms of the temperature of the engine cooling water, the ambient temperature, the internal temperature of the exhaust gas oxidation reactor and the vehicle speed for producing pneumatic signals of atmospheric pressure when the detected information reaches respective predetermined levels, and a selective actuating mechanism including a change-over valve, a one-way valve, an orifice and a passage for logically processing the pneumatic signals of the detecting devices for producing pneumatic signals of positive pressure or of intake manifold vacuum to selectively actuate an EGR control valve and the intake manifold, a change-over valve disposed midway of the exhaust pipe for changing introduction of the exhaust gases between the oxidation reactor and a bypass passage, and a changeover valve for supplying therethrough secondary air to the oxidation reactor.

    摘要: An exhaust gas throttle valve disposed in the exhaust system of an engine, wherein the center axis of rotation of a valve shaft 5 is set at a position deviated from the center axis of the exhaust gas passage, and two recessed portions 11 are symmetrically formed in the circumferential portion of a valve body 4 by cutting the surface thereof. The positions where the recessed portions 11 are formed are on the side of the center axis of the exhaust gas passage beyond the center axis 12 of rotation, and at where the peripheral portion of the valve body 4 faces the edge portions 9 where insertion holes 8 for the valve shaft 5 are opened in the exhaust gas passage. At these positions, the distance is a minimum between the peripheral portion of the valve body 4 and the edge portions 9. The recessed portions 11 work to increase the gap relative to the edge portions 9 at that positions. It is therefore made possible to approximate the peripheral portion of the valve body 4 to the tubular wall of the exhaust gas passage 2 when the exhaust gas throttle valve is closed preventing the valve body 4 and the edge portions 9 from coming in contact together despite of the thermal expansion.

    摘要: An apparatus is disclosed for regenerating a filter trap used to collect particulates from the exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine. The apparatus comprises: (a) an assembly providing a flow of a heat transfer medium through the filter trap: (b) an assembly for heating the heat transfer medium to a temperature effective to incinerate the particulates in the filter trap: and (c) a flow mask stationed in the flow of heat transfer medium, upstream from said filter trap, effective to divert the heat transfer medium away from the radially inner zone of the filter trap while guiding the heat transfer medium to engage and ignite the particulates along a radially outer region of the filter trap. The mask is a circular disc and spaced upstream from the filter trap effective to mask a central core area of the flow of heat transfer medium.The assembly for heating comprises one or more electrically heated resistance elements arranged in a planar coil configuration extending transversely across the flow of heat transfer medium. A flow diffuser is stationed upstream from the mask and is comprised of a plurality of foraminous plates effective to diffuse and slow down the flow of heat transfer medium for increasing heat exchange. The flow diffuser has a radiation reflective coating to limit heat losses and a member is employed for depressing the temperature required to ignite the particulates.

    摘要: A diesel particulate filter system for treating the exhaust gas of a diesel engine which is small in size and inexpensive. The system includes a particulate filter connected in a gas line from the engine, a burner, including an ignition plug, connected at a point upstream of the particulate filter and which is supplied with fuel, a primary air flow for atomizing the fuel, and a secondary air flow for burning the particulates trapped in the particular filter and which supplies the particulate filter with a hot burning gas produced by the ignition plug. Primary and secondary pumps supply, respectively, the primary and secondary air flows. A single motor drives both the primary and secondary air pumps. The ignition plug and motor are controlled so that when the amount of particulates trapped in the filter exceeds a preset level, the ignition plug and motor are activated to clean the filter by burning the particulates in the burner.

    摘要: An exhaust cleaner system for use in the exhaust system of a diesel engine is provided with a particulate filter positioned in a trap housing with an exhaust inlet thereto and an exhaust outlet therefrom. A pair of exhaust ducts are positioned in the inlet end of the exhaust outlet whereby to define, in effect, three separate exhaust flow zones through the filter and a flow limiter valve is operatively positioned to sequentially control flow through the exhaust ducts. Glow plugs are located so as to extend into the zones of the filter associated with the exhaust ducts to initiate incineration of particulates during reduced exhaust flow conditions as controlled by the flow limiter valve.

When the air throttle valve is thus throttling the intake system and thus raising the temperature of the exhaust gases so as to purge the soot particle catcher, the amount of throttling provided by the air throttle valve is controlled, by comparing the pressure in the intake system downstream of the air throttle valve with a certain reference pressure, so as to keep this pressure in the intake system downstream of the air throttle valve substantially the same as this reference pressure.

    摘要: A temperature control system for a catalytic convertor in an exhaust emission system for an internal combustion engine includes a cooling loop for lowering the exhaust gas temperature to prevent overheating of the convertor. The system includes a crossover passage in the engine intake manifold and a pair of conduits separately connected to the exhaust manifolds and commonly connected at a Y-pipe including a convertor temperature responsive diverter valve that is operable to selectively route the gases through the conduits. One conduit has a relatively short length wherein the exhaust gases experience a small temperature loss and the other conduit or cooling loop has a longer length of pipe including a section of corrugated tubing having an increased heat transfer area wherein the exhaust gases experience a large temperature loss. During warmup and normal operating conditions the valve routes the exhaust gases through the crossover passage and the shorter conduit. When the convertor exceeds a predetermined temperature, the valve routes the exhaust gases through the crossover passage and the longer conduit thereby lowering exhaust gas temperature to provide a lower inlet temperature at the convertor and maintain the temperature of the convertor within a predetermined range.
