    摘要: A servo system includes multiple servo channels being driven by a common error signal. Each channel has a controller that receives an error signal and provides a drive signal to a driver. The servo channels are arranged serially, with a drive signal from one controller forming the error signal for a downstream controller. As a result, the downstream controller does not attempt to correct for phase error directly, but instead attempts to keep the upstream driver at or near its operational midpoint. The servo channels can be arranged in order of decreasing controller bandwidth, from fastest to slowest. In contrast with a parallel configuration, in which servo channels all simultaneously receive a common error signal, the serial configuration can allow each controller to use its full bandwidth, can eliminate crosstalk between servo channels, and can prevent saturation of upstream drive signals.

    摘要: Seed pulse generators for fiber amplifier systems include a seed pump controller coupled to a seed pump laser diode. A photodetector is situated to detect seed pulse generation, and is coupled to the seed pump controller so that seed pumping is decreased upon pulse detection. For a laser diode pump source, a pump current can be pulsed to produce a seed pulse and then decreased to a bias level such as a DC bias current that is less than a pump laser threshold current. Single seed pulses can be generated with reduced pulse jitter.

In another embodiment, an apparatus is provided comprising a gain medium including an alkali vapor and a buffer gas including 3He gas, wherein if 4He gas is also present in the buffer gas, the ratio of the concentration of the 3He gas to the 4He gas is greater than 1.37×10−6.     摘要: The systems and methods herein provide for tuning an optical characteristic of a gain medium for a laser system. For example, a system may include a thermal tuner that dynamically controls the temperature of the gain medium to compensate for thermal mechanical distortions of the gain medium caused by laser energy in the gain medium. In doing so, the tuner may dynamically adjust a coolant temperature and/or a coolant flow rate proximate to the gain medium. Accordingly, heat is dynamically removed from the gain medium so as to adjust for optical distortions in the gain medium. Such a dynamic heat removal may provide a laser system designer with the ability to generate laser energy with controllable predetermined optical wavefronts (e.g., a flat optical wavefront).
