Abstract: A temperature rise in an optical resonator can be suppressed, or damage to the optical resonator due to laser light condensing can be avoided.
A laser element includes a semiconductor layer including a first reflection layer with respect to a first wavelength and an active layer that performs surface emission at the first wavelength, a laser medium arranged on a rear side of an optical axis of the semiconductor layer and including a second reflection layer with respect to a second wavelength on a first surface facing the semiconductor layer and a third reflection layer with respect to the first wavelength on a second surface on a side opposite to the first surface, a fourth reflection layer with respect to the second wavelength arranged on the second surface or arranged on a rear side of the optical axis with respect to the second surface, a first resonator that causes light having the first wavelength to resonate between the first reflection layer and the third reflection layer, a second resonator that causes light having the second wavelength to resonate between the second reflection layer and the fourth reflection layer, and an optical element arranged between the second reflection layer and the fourth reflection layer, the optical element that increases a beam diameter of the light having the second wavelength, in which the optical axis of the semiconductor layer, an optical axis of the laser medium, and an optical axis of the optical element are coaxially arranged.-

Abstract: A lidar system can include a solid-state laser to emit pulses of light. The solid-state laser can include a Q-switched laser having a gain medium and a Q-switch. The lidar system can also include a scanner configured to scan the emitted pulses of light across a field of regard and a receiver configured to detect at least a portion of the scanned pulses of light scattered by a target located a distance from the lidar system. The lidar system can also include a processor configured to determine the distance from the lidar system to the target based at least in part on a round-trip time of flight for an emitted pulse of light to travel from the lidar system to the target and back to the lidar system.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a lidar system includes a pump laser configured to produce pulses of light at a pump wavelength. The lidar system further includes an optical parametric oscillator (OPO) with an OPO medium configured to: receive the pump pulses from the pump laser; convert at least part of the received pump pulses into pulses of light at a signal wavelength and pulses of light at an idler wavelength; and emit at least a portion of the signal pulses. The lidar system also includes a scanner configured to scan the emitted pulses of light across a field of regard and a receiver configured to detect at least a portion of the scanned pulses of light scattered by a target located a distance from the lidar system. The lidar system also includes a processor configured to determine the distance from the lidar system to the target.

Abstract: A laser ignition device capable of achieving stable ignition, preventing deterioration of a semiconductor laser element is provided, by suppressing the intensity of oscillated light leakage leaking towards semiconductor laser side from the laser resonator with a simple configuration. A laser ignition device 7 includes an excitation light source 1 emitting coherent excitation light LPMP, an optical element 2 transmitting excitation light LPMP, a laser resonator 3 oscillating oscillated light having high energy density by being irradiated with excitation light LPMP, and condensing means 6 condensing the oscillated light LPLS oscillated by the laser resonator 3. Moreover, the laser ignition device 7 is provided with a light-transmissive-reflective film 5 disposed between the excitation light source 1 and the laser resonator 3. The light-transmissive-reflective is film 5 permeating the excitation light LPMP having short wavelength and reflecting oscillated light leakage LLEAK having long wavelength.

Abstract: The invention relates to a supercontinuum light source comprising a microstructured optical fiber and a pump light source. The microstructured optical fiber comprises a core and a cladding region surrounding the core, as well as a first fiber length section, a second fiber length section and an intermediate fiber length section between said first and second fiber length sections. The first fiber length section comprises a core with a first characteristic core diameter. The second fiber length section comprises a core with a second characteristic core diameter, smaller than said first characteristic core diameter, where said second characteristic core diameter is substantially constant along said second fiber length section. The intermediate length section of the optical fiber comprises a core which is tapered from said first characteristic core diameter to said second characteristic core diameter over a tapered length.
