Abstract:
Embodiments disclosed herein include multilayer films having at least an outer layer that includes 1) polyethylene elastomer and 2) ULDPE or VLDPE and that has a purge fraction greater than 20 percent as determined by Crystallization Elution Fractionation (CEF) test method. Embodiments disclosed herein also include related compositions to make such films and methods of making such films. The ULDPE or VLDPE can be made via Ziegler-Natta catalyst reaction techniques to provide the desired purge fraction.

Articles made from a moisture-crosslinkable, polymeric composition comprising in weight percent based on the weight of the composition: (A) 10 to 99.99 wt % of a nonpolar ethylenic polymer grafted with silane functionality (Si-g-npPE), the npPE having the following properties before grafting: (1) a vinyl content of 0.2 to 0.7 per 1,000 carbon atoms, (2) a melt index of 1.5 to 7.0 dg/min, (3) a density of 0.913 to 0.965 g/cc, and (4) a molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) of equal to or less than 8; (B) 0.01 to 20 wt % of a silanol condensation catalyst; and (C) 0 to 70 wt % of a flame retardant additive; exhibit one or more of desirable (a) silane grafting efficiency; (b) hot creep performance as a cable jacket/insulation after moisture crosslinking; (c) retained dielectric strength after glancing impact as a moisture crosslinked cable construction; and (d) crush resistance as a moisture crosslinked cable construction.

Embodiments are directed to a stretch hood or stretch label multilayer film comprising a first skin layer, a second skin layer, and a core layer disposed between the first skin layer and the second skin layer, wherein: the first skin layer, the second skin layer, or both independently comprise at least 50 wt. % of a linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) resin, wherein the skin LLDPE resin exhibits each of the following properties: a Crystallization Elution Fractionation (CEF) fraction of less than 8% above an elution temperature of 94° C.; and a melt index (I2) of 0.1 to 2.0 g/10 min when measured according to ASTM D 1238 at a load of 2.16 kg and temperature of 190° C. The core layer comprises a polyethylene resin having a wt. % crystallinity of from 10% to 40% and a single melting peak as measured by differential scanning calorimetry.

Mono- and multi-layer films comprising a polyethylene composition which comprises the reaction product of ethylene and optionally one or more alpha olefin comonomers in the presence of a catalyst composition comprising a multi-metallic procatalyst via a solution polymerization process in at least one reactor; wherein said polyethylene composition is characterized by one or more of the following properties: a melt index, I2, measured according to ASTM D 1238 (2.16 kg @ 190° C.), from 0.1 to 5 g/10 min; density, measured according to ASTM D-792, from 0.910 to 0.935 g/cc; melt flow ratio, I10/I2, wherein I10 is measured according to ASTM D1238 (10 kg @ 190° C.), from 6 to 7.4; and molecular weight distribution, (Mw/Mn) from 2.5 to 3.5 are provided. Also provided are articles made from the mono- and/or multi-layer films.

Artificial turf filaments formed from polyethylene are provided that can have desirable properties. In one aspect, an artificial turf filament comprises a composition comprising a first composition, wherein the first composition comprises at least one ethylene-based polymer and wherein the first composition comprises a MWCDI value greater than 0.9, and a melt index ratio (I10/I2) that meets the following equation: I10/I2≧7.0−1.2×log (I2).
