A preventive maintenance method and apparatus for a structural member in a reactor pressure vessel according to the present invention reduce a tensile residual stress on a surface of the structural member by impinging a water jet from a nozzle onto a plane surface of a deflector to thereby change direction of flow of the water jet, and impinging the water jet after being deflected onto the surface of the structural member. This method and apparatus are applicable to a narrow space portion, and can improve a residual stress on the surface of the structural member and can also prevent damage such as stress corrosion cracking.

The present invention relates to a dispersion-managed optical fiber which can be manufactured easily and has a structure which enables the easy connection thereof with other optical fiber and the like. The dispersion-managed optical fiber is a silica-based optical fiber ensuring its single mode at a predetermined wavelength within a signal wavelength band, in which first portions each having a positive chromatic dispersion and second portions each having a negative chromatic dispersion are arranged alternately and adjacent to each other. In the dispersion-managed optical fiber, the dopant concentration is made uniform in the longitudinal direction and, corresponding to the above-mentioned first and second portions, the refractive index of a glass layer not doped with GeO2 as a dopant is adjusted or the residual stresses in glass layers are changed.

The present invention relates to a WDM transmission system and the like suitable for optical communications between local stations having a relatively short repeater interval. In particular, the WDM transmission repeater employed in the WDM transmission system demultiplexes a plurality of signal lights propagating through a transmission line into first and second groups, takes out the second group, comprises a multiplexer for sending into the transmission line a new WDM signal group in which the first group thus demultiplexed and a third group of signal lights different from those of the first group are multiplexed, and has a special structure for reducing the influence of the not-demultiplexed crosstalk components within the second group upon the optical communications.

The present invention relates to an optical fiber which enables favorable optical communications in 1.3-&mgr;m and 1.55-&mgr;m wavelength bands, and an optical transmission system including the same. The optical fiber according to the present invention has only one zero-dispersion wavelength within a wavelength range of 1.20 &mgr;m to 1.60 &mgr;m, the zero-dispersion wavelength existing within a wavelength range of 1.37 &mgr;m to 1.50 &mgr;m, and has a positive dispersion slope at the zero-dispersion wavelength, thereby enabling favorable optical communications utilizing each signal light in the 1.3-&mgr;m and 1.55-&mgr;m wavelength bands sandwiching the zero-dispersion wavelength.

摘要:
A method of treating a metal alkoxide solution to form metal oxide prepolymer molecules therein is characterized by irradiating the solution with light energy having a wavelength selected to break the metal-alkoxy group bond in said metal alkoxide, thereby to form the metal oxide prepolymer molecules in the solution. The prepolymer is converted into polymeric metal oxide gel. The stoichiometry of the oxide is high. A gel of carbon content below 4 atomic % can be achieved by the step of decarbonizing the gel, preferably using light to produce ozone.

An X-ray CT scanner having an X-ray tube for emitting X-rays to a subject under examination and an X-ray detector for detecting X-rays emitted by the X-ray tube and passed through the subject. The X-ray CT scanner photographs a scanogram of the subject first and then photographs slice images of the subject in slice positions set on the scanogram. The X-ray CT scanner includes a scan condition setter for determining optimum scan conditions including optimum X-ray tube current or the optimum X-ray tube voltage for each of slice position and optimum shifted positions of the X-ray tube and X-ray detector in the case of an X-ray CT scanner with a shift mechanism for photographing the slice images on the basis of photographic data of the scanogram and a scan controller for controlling the execution of photographing of the slice images in accordance with the scan conditions determined by the scan condition setter.

According to the present invention, there is provided an image data detecting apparatus for X-ray CT comprising a scanning apparatus including an X-ray tube for emitting X-rays while rotating about a patient, a detector for detecting X rays emitted by the X-ray tube and passing through the patient, and a memory unit for storing transmission X-ray data detected by the detector, and a transmitting/receiving unit for transmitting the transmission X-ray data stored in the memory unit together with an identification number for identifying the image data detecting apparatus. The image data detecting apparatus of the present invention can be set solely in an inspection site, thereby making it possible to save the space for inspection.

A tube sheet is formed by integrating a plurality of tubes into the form of a sheet. The tube sheet is constricted in junction portions of the respective tubes so that the tube sheet is deformed in these junction portions. At least one such tube sheet is disposed around a center member to form a tube-aggregated cable.

A vacuum heat insulator is provided which includes a vacuum heat-insulated space defined between a pair of spaced outer skin members, a portion of the space closer to one of the outer skin members being set as high-temperature side, with a portion closer to the other outer skin member being set as low-temperature side. A laminate is disposed at the high-temperature side of the vacuum heat-insulated space, and a board having an inorganic material is disposed at the low temperature side. The laminate includes inorganic sheet members and metallic foils with low heat emissivity, the sheet members and metallic foils being alternately laid in plural layers.
