Abstract: A rolling-contact shaft member, which is made of high-carbon steel and whose outer peripheral surface serves as a rolling-contact surface that rolling-contacts a mating material, includes: a carbonitrided layer having a carbon concentration of 1.1 to 1.6 wt % and a nitrogen concentration of 0.05 to 0.6 wt % in the range from the surface to the depth of 10 μm. The rolling-contact shaft member has a Vickers hardness of 700 to 840 HV at the outer peripheral surface and has a Vickers hardness of 600 HV or less in its central portion. A maximum value of an absolute value of a gradient of a change in the Vickers hardness from the outer peripheral surface to the central portion is 100 to 340 HV/mm.

The internal combustion engine comprising an engine head having at least two wells adapted to receive at least one valve lifter, the at least one valve lifter includes a flat surface, at least one spacer installed within the engine head having a first surface, a hollow portion, and a second surface, the first surface is tapered with respect to a vertical axis of the at least one spacer, and a tie-bar plate for coupling the at least one spacer using head bolts. The at least one spacer and the at least one valve lifter are operatively arranged during operation in such a way that the flat surface of the at least one valve lifter faces the first surface of the at least one spacer to prevent rotation of the at least one valve lifter.

Abstract: An engine power unit includes a crankcase, a cylinder body, and a cylinder head sequentially stacked and fastened with each other. A cam shaft holder is fastened to the cylinder head to rotatably support a cam shaft of an engine valve operating mechanism. A cylinder head cover covers the cylinder head and the cam shaft holder. Fastening bolts penetrate the cylinder head cover and the cam shaft holder to be screwed into the cylinder head. Pressing surfaces are formed on the inner surface of the cylinder head cover. The pressing surfaces are abutted against and press the cam shaft holder to the cylinder head. Thus, rigidity around the cylinder head is enhanced, and a weight reduction of the power unit is achieved.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for operating an internal combustion engine in a two-stroke mode or a four-stroke mode to achieve greater fuel efficiency and minimize emissions. The system comprises a mode-adaptable valve; a valve rocker arm to actuate opening and closing of the mode adaptable valve; a cam follower of a first cam for carrying out a two-stroke mode; a cam follower of a second cam for carrying out a four-stroke mode; and a pin to mechanically couple the valve rocker arm to the cam follower of the first cam or the cam follower of the second cam. Coupling the valve rocker arm to the cam follower of the first cam enables a two-stroke mode and coupling the valve rocker arm to the cam follower of the second cam enables a four-stroke mode.
