Abstract: A system and method to enhance pedestrian safety that include accessing pedestrian data and vehicle system data and determining a current location and a speed of a vehicle based on the vehicle system data. The system and method also include determining a current location and a speed of a pedestrian based on the pedestrian data and building at least one vehicle polygon that represents a predicted path of the vehicle. The system and method additionally include building at least one pedestrian polygon that represents a predicted path of the pedestrian. The system and method further include determining if the at least one pedestrian polygon intersects the at least one vehicle polygon and actuating a warning based on an intersection of the at least one pedestrian polygon with the at least one vehicle polygon.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and devices for predicting a driver's intention and future movements of a proximal vehicle, whether an automated vehicle or a human driven vehicle, are disclosed herein. A system for predicting future movements of a vehicle includes an intersection component, a camera system, a boundary component, and a prediction component. The intersection component is configured to determine that a parent vehicle is near an intersection. The camera system is configured to capture an image of the proximal vehicle. The boundary component is configured to identify a sub-portion of the image containing a turn signal indicator on the proximal vehicle. The prediction component is configured to predict future movement of the proximal vehicle through the intersection based on a state of the turn signal indicator.

Abstract: Systems and methods for coordinating and controlling vehicles, for example heavy trucks, to follow closely behind each other, or linking to form a platoon. In one aspect, on-board controllers in each vehicle interact with vehicular sensors to monitor and control, for example, relative distance, relative acceleration or deceleration, and speed. In some aspects, vehicle onboard systems supply various data (breadcrumbs) to a Network Operations Center (NOC), which in turn provides data (authorization data) to the vehicles to facilitate platooning. The NOC suggests vehicles for platooning based on, for example, travel forecasts and analysis of relevant roadways to identify platoonable roadway segments. The NOC also can provide traffic, roadway, weather, or system updates, as well as various instructions. In some aspects, a mesh network ensures improved communication among vehicles and with the NOC. In some aspects, a vehicle onboard system may provide the authorization data.

Abstract: A traffic lane acquisition section obtains traffic lane information that includes the road shape of a host-vehicle lane, from road map information, based on the detected position of a host vehicle, expressed by position information obtained by a host vehicle position acquisition section. Based on detected positions of traffic lane identification-use objects, contained in object information obtained by an object acquisition section, a lane boundary line identification section identifies lane boundary lines. A region estimation section estimates a displacement-possible region of the host-vehicle lane ahead of the host vehicle, based on the lane boundary lines that are obtained by the lane boundary line identification section. If a predetermined lane reliability condition is not satisfied for the lane boundary lines, then the accuracy of estimating the displacement-possible region is updated by using the road shape of the host-vehicle lane from the traffic lane information obtained by the traffic lane acquisition section.
