摘要: A sealed cartridge 22 vor selective use in a disc drive 20 includes a sealed housing 70 with a disc 72 positioned therein and heads 80, 81 positioned relative to the disc. An actuator mechanism 84 is provided for use with an actuator arrangement 47 of the disc drive 20 in order that the actuator mechanism 84 and the actuator arrangement 47 can cooperate to move the heads 80, 81 relative to the disc 72. A magnetic coupling mechanism 77 is adapted for magnetically coupling the disc 72 to the disc drive 20 in order to allow the disc drive 20 to rotate the disc 72, without the magnetic coupling mechanism 77 physically touching the disc drive 20.

摘要: To accurately move a pickup 31 along a radial line of an optical disc in an optical disc apparatus for recording signals on both sides of the disc or reproducing the signals from the both sides, the pickup 31 is mounted on a support base 30 coupled to transport means and movable by being guided by a U-shaped guide assembly 5 which is fixedly and accurately positioned on a chassis carrying a disc drive motor. The guide assembly 5 comprises a pair of straight travel guide portions disposed in parallel to each other on opposite sides of the plane of rotation of the disc, and a circular-arc guide portion interconnecting the two guide portions. When reproducing the recorded signals, the pickup 31 accurately reciprocatingly moves on the disc radial line along the straight travel guide portions, and when the reproduction position is changed from one side of the disc to the other side, the pickup quickly moves upward or downward along the circular-arc guide portion.

摘要: An information storage medium in which information is stored as multiple machine readable data entries arranged in frames which are themselves arranged in plural, generally parallel channels. The medium further contains machine readable synchronization markers respectively positioned at the leading ends of the channels. These markers include one or more features of characteristic shape or dimension or are characteristically located on the medium with respect to the associated channels. Preferably the medium further contains a second set of similar markers arranged in respectively groups alongside the respective channels. Also disclosed are a method and apparatus for synchronizing a read head utilizing the storage medium. Further described is a method of observing a succession of machine readable position markers in turn and observed values indicating marker position for a predetermined number of markers preceding each marker being observed, determining whether each observed value is outside a selected trend established by the stored values by more than a predetermined margin, and, if so, reducing the effect of that value.

摘要: A data recorder employs a disk record having a spiral track with either magnetically or optically sensible indicia. A normal mode of operation is to repeatedly scan one turn or circumvolution of the spiral track for emulating a circularly closed track. The recorder responds to received commands from a utilization device to tailor the disk access and recovery operations to the received command based upon command parameters and current status of the disk record. Electrical circuit and programming arrangements for effecting the controls are disclosed.

摘要: In a conventional cash or credit card, since the magnetization angle between the magnetic head and the recording medium formed on the card is fixed, data recorded on the card can easily be discriminated or copied through a card reader for allowing dishonest use of the card. To overcome these problems, data are written or read on or from the card on the basis of a head motion pattern code recorded at the head area of the recording medium. In operation, the read/write head is moved relative to a moving card in accordance with a head motion signal corresponding to a recorded head motion pattern code so that the magnetization angle between the head and the recording medium is intermittently varied in both data recording and reproducing operations.
