Abstract:
A multi-axis actuating apparatus for a nano-positioning apparatus includes a movable element attached to a sample platform, a plurality of driving elements, and a plurality of actuators. The driving elements frictionally engage the movable element and are configured to selectively move the movable element along a first direction. The plurality of actuators move the plurality of driving elements when driving signals are applied to the plurality of actuators. Different driving signals may be applied to the plurality of actuators to cause different movement of the driving elements such that the movable element has different displacements in different directions along the plurality of driving elements. The movable element is titled due to the different displacements.
Abstract:
For relieving typing burdens caused by incorrect spellings, typing errors, unknown spellings, and characters with diacritical marks, and for enhancing a typing efficiency of a typist with some simplified techniques, several candidate generating methods are provided for assisting the typist to pick a candidate word from a list of generated candidate words, or for selecting a candidate word from said list of generated candidate words in an automatic-selection manner. A proper-designed user interface may also be utilized for implementing the candidate generating methods.
Abstract:

Abstract:
A method for preparing a hydrogel includes the steps of injecting a precursor with at least two alkene groups into a predetermined portion, injecting at least one specie into the predetermined portion, and performing an X-ray irradiation on the predetermined portion to induce a polymerization reaction of the precursor to form a porous hydrogel with the specie embedded inside the porous hydrogel. In one embodiment of the present invention, the specie is selected from the group consisting of nucleic acid and adhesion agent.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a method for expressing a gene in a cell. The method includes introducing into a cell an agent that inhibits one or both of miRNA pathway and antiviral defense pathway; and a baculovirus that contains a nucleic acid molecule including a gene operably linked to a promoter; and expressing the gene in the cell.
Abstract:
Novel substrates for detection of activity of amyloid beta degrading enzyme, such as Neprilysin (NEP) and insulin degrading enzyme (IDE), associated with Alzheimer's disease, are provided. A quenched fluorogenic peptide substrate containing the first seven residues of the Aβpeptide plus a C-terminal Cys residue to detect neprilysin activity with a fluorophore attached to the C-terminal Cys and a quencher linked to the N-terminus of the peptide is disclosed. An assay system sensitive to endopeptidase activity of NEP and IDE, but insensitive to other Aβ-degrading enzymes is disclosed. Active compounds are identified by a cell-based assay system for high-throughput screening.
Abstract:
Novel gibberellin 2-oxidase (GA2ox) genes were identified. Differential expression of GA2ox genes correlated with flower development, seed germination, tiller growth and other developmental processes. In addition, the early and increased growth of tiller and adventitious root and altered root architecture caused by overexpression of GA2oxs further suggest the pleiotropic role of GA2oxs in controlling growth and architecture in plants such as rice. GA2ox5, GA2ox6 and GA2ox9 were three genes encoding class C20 GA2oxs in rice. Mutants or transgenic rice overexpressing class C20 GA2oxs exhibited a broad range of mutant phenotypes, including semi-dwarfism, increased root system and higher tiller numbers that may favor grain yield. Mutations in the conserved domain III were found to affect the physiological activity of class C20 GA2oxs. Methods are described for controlling plant growth and architecture by controlling gene expression of gibberellin 2-oxidase in the plant.

A protein carrier containing an antigen presenting cell binding domain and a cysteine-rich domain. Also described herein is an immunoconjugate containing the protein carrier with an antigen conjugated to multiple cysteine residues in the cysteine-rich domain, and an immune composition containing the immunoconjugate and an adjuvant, as well as their uses in eliciting immune responses.
Abstract:
An angled dual-polarity mass spectrometer includes a dual-polarity ion generator, a first mass analyzer, and a second mass analyzer. The dual-polarity ion generator includes an ion source to generate positive ions and negative ions from a sample, and electrodes to generate electric fields for guiding the negative ions into a beam of negative ions and guiding the positive ions into a beam of positive ions. The first mass analyzer can analyze the negative ions, and the second mass analyzer can analyze the positive ions. The central axes of the first and the second mass analyzers are at an angle between 0 to 179 degrees.
