A coating composition is described, containing (a) a metallic matrix based on nickel, cobalt, iron; or combinations thereof; (b) a ceramic phase, containing at least one metal boride or metal silicide compound; and (c) a lubricant phase. Methods of providing wear-resistance and low-friction characteristics to an article (e.g., a gas turbine) are also described, using the coating composition. Related structures are also discussed.

A metal treatment composition including Tin (II) Chloride and processed montmorillonite clay. The addition of Tin (II) Chloride to the composition provides Tin for forming a ceramic-metal layer on the surfaces of the friction pair. Tin (II) Chloride provides Chlorine ions for forming Chloric films for protecting juvenile surfaces which form in the friction zone. The clay is heated and pulverized to produce a powder comprising both particles having crystalline layer structure and salts and oxides. The layered crystalline structure of the clay contains slip planes that transversely shift when tangential pressure from the friction pair is applied thereby lubricating the friction pair. The salts and oxides contribute to the formation of the ceramic-metal layer.

The disclosed invention provides a composition that possesses insulation values approaching that of uncompressed foam neoprene. The liquid composition is incompressible and may be formulated to be neutrally buoyant in water. The composition is suitable for a use in a number of applications where insulation is required, including divers' suits and underwater cabins, such as chambers, submersible hulls, and waterproof housings.

The present invention provides a friction control composition comprising a binder a rheological control agent, and optionally a lubricant. The liquid friction control composition may also comprise other components a wetting agent, a consistency modifier, and a preservative. The liquid friction control compositions may be used to modify the interfacial friction characteristics in sliding and rolling-sliding contact such as steel wheel-rail systems including mass transit and freight systems. A method of reducing lateral force, reducing energy consumption, or controlling friction between a metal surface and a second metal surface by applying the composition to metal surface, for example a top of rail or wheel, is also provided. The composition may be sprayed onto the rail surface.

The present invention provides an electro-rheological fluid based on an organic and inorganic nanocomposite, that is, polyaniline-Nanull-MMT clay nanocomposite, which is in a layered structure. The polyaniline-Nanull-MMT clay nanocomposite particles can be synthesized by an emulsion polymerization. New ER fluid comprising polyaniline-clay nanocomposite particles dispersed in a non-conductive medium shows that shear stress remains almost constant when increasing shear rate, as well as when being applied various electric fields, even in high shear region, and has a good thermal stability.

The method involves applying an HPF friction control composition to one, or more than one contacting surface of one or both of the two steel elements. In a particular example, the HPF friction control composition comprises a rheological control agent, a lubricant, a friction modifier, and one, or more than one of a retentivity agent, an antioxidant, a consistency modifier, and a freezing point depressant.

This invention is to provide a conductive grease which is less to decrease conductivity as a time passes. The conductive grease comprises abase oil, a thickener, a conductive solid powder, and at least one kind of a wear inhibitor, an extreme pressure agent and an oiliness agent, wherein an amount of the conductive solid powder added is 0.1 to 10 wt %, and an amount of the at least one kind of a wear inhibitor, an extreme pressure agent and an oiliness agent added is 0.1 to 10 wt %. Further, the conductive grease comprises the base oil and at least one of conductive additives, and the conductive additives are fibrous carbon, metallic particle, metallic compound particle and carbon nano-tube. The conductive grease to be packed into the rolling bearing comprises conductive fine particles such as carbon black and has an oil separation degree of 2% or lower. A ball bearing to be favorably used at high temperature comprises an inner race and an outer race, and a plurality of balls freely rotating between both races, and the conductive grease packed into a space defined between both races and holding the plural balls therein, and the conductive grease comprises the base oil, a thickener comprising fluorine compound or silicone compound and 0.2 to 10 wt % of the carbon black.
