Abstract:
Media sources that deliver at least portions of media content to viewer systems are described. The media content represents a plurality of camera perspectives of a single media product. A first request and a second request are both received. The first request is from a first viewer system and the second request is from a second viewer system. The first request is responded to by delivering a primary media stream to the first viewer system. The primary media stream contains a representation of at least a first of the plurality of camera perspectives. The second request is responded to by delivering both the primary media stream and a secondary media stream to the second viewer system. The secondary media stream contains a representation of at least a second of the plurality of camera perspectives. The second viewer system combines the primary and secondary media streams to display a three-dimensional view.
Abstract:
A home entertainment system that employs DRM (Data Rights Management) data protected multimedia programs and rights management component (RMC), with corresponding hardware and software systems incorporated in to home entertainment systems, to protect rights of the media program providers and the users. The system employs STB (Set Top Box) as a hub. The rights management component is incorporated in to the set top box (STB Circuitry), as well as some of the media devices. Three operational scenarios are envisaged regarding the home entertainment system. The first operational scenario involves a remote media source and the media device interaction via STB Circuitry; where as the STB Circuitry performs the duty of a mediator. The second operational scenario involves remote media source and the media device interaction via STB Circuitry, where as the STB Circuitry having rights to reissue licenses to media players. The third operational scenario involves local media sources incorporating the RMC and interacting with the STB Circuitry to decrypt and transcode the multimedia programs. Further, the STB Circuitry interacts with a remote billing server via the communication network regarding presentation rights, to interact with a user regarding the presentation rights, and to arrange for payment for the presentation rights.
Abstract:
An electronic communication network supports delivery of video program Internet protocol packets. A source device transmits both first and second video program Internet protocol packets. A first recipient device is assigned as positive acknowledgment leader by the source device and a second recipient device is assigned as negative acknowledgement leader by the source device. The first recipient device is operable to transmit to the source device a positive acknowledgment of receipt of the first video program Internet protocol packet. The second recipient device is operable to transmit to the source device a negative acknowledgment of non-receipt upon not receiving the first video program Internet protocol packet. The source device responds to the negative acknowledgement of non-receipt by the second recipient device by multicast resending the second video program Internet protocol packet to both the first and second recipient devices.
Abstract:
Remote control devices that can be used to independently modify multiple visual presentations that are simultaneously displayed by a screen assembly are described, wherein at least one of the visual presentations is observable by a first viewer but not a second viewer. The remote control devices can also be used to independently select media content upon which each of the multiple visual presentations is based and to control the manner in which such media content is delivered to the screen assembly. In accordance with certain embodiments, at least one of the visual presentations comprises a three-dimensional visual presentation. Display systems that include such remote control devices and methods of operating the same are also described.
Abstract:
A communication device may select a communication path to check for pending messages in a multiple network environment. The communication device may exit from a power-saving operating mode during which the communication device does not receive messages from a message server. After exiting the power-saving operating mode, the communication device may identify multiple different communication paths. The multiple communication paths may include different communication networks in the multiple network environment. The communication device may determine a selected communication path from among the multiple communication paths and communicate with a message server across the selected communication path to check for messages.
Abstract:
An online sales/automatic rebate and coupon redemption system provides online customers automatic retrieval and redemption of all applicable rebates and coupons during purchase. Purchase orders from customers are selectively fulfilled and products are shipped to the customers either by the system for online sales with automatic rebate and coupon redemption or by other merchant or manufacturer environments. The system purchases from merchants using applicable coupons and rebates and then sells the products to the customers, passing the savings to them. The system makes it possible to automatically retrieve coupons and rebates for items in a shopping cart during the activity of an online purchase at an electronic mall or an online merchant site. The system provides coupons to potential customers via email, based on customer profile, geographical information, etc. Manufacturers and merchants can update coupon value and content based on ongoing sales and volume of customer activity.

Abstract:
A display system and method are provided that enable two-dimensional and/or three-dimensional images to be displayed. One or more light manipulating layers, a pixel array, and an optional backlighting panel are provided. Each light manipulating layer may be a parallax barrier or a lenticular lens. A parallax barrier includes a plurality of barrier elements arranged in a barrier element array. The barrier element array includes a plurality of strips of barrier elements selected to be transparent to form a plurality of non-blocking strips. A lenticular lens includes an array of sub-lenses, and may be elastic. The display system is configured to deliver light from the pixel array or backlighting panel as views to corresponding viewers in a viewing space. The delivered views may include one or more two-dimensional views and/or one or more three-dimensional views.
Abstract:
Systems and methods supporting automatic selection of media according to a user profile are disclosed. An embodiment of the present invention may automatically select media matching user-defined characteristics in a user profile, and may provide information identifying the selected media to a user via a user interface. The user interface may be displayed as one or more media channels, where a portion of each media channel may comprise information identifying the automatically selected media. The user may then access the automatically selected media via the user interface. The media selected may one or more of audio, still images, video, real-time video, and data.
