Abstract:
An apparatus for production of a gypsum product is provided which comprises a conveyer comprising a conveyer belt and means for rotating the conveyer belt; means for forming a gypsum product; and at least one laser scanner positioned over the conveyer belt at the location where the scanner scans at least one edge of the gypsum product which is at least partially set; and the laser scanner is in communication with a processor. Methods for forming a gypsum product with the apparatus are provided as well.
Abstract:
A discharge gate is provided for delivering a mixed slurry from a gypsum slurry mixer, and includes a first extractor port configured for generating a first density slurry for a first gypsum layer, and a second extractor port configured for generating a second density slurry for a second gypsum layer. A channel is defined by a front panel and a side panel of the discharge gate for delivering the first and second density slurries from the slurry mixer. The first extractor port extends semi-tangentially from the front panel of the discharge gate, and is connected in fluid communication with the front panel via the channel and a first slurry passageway disposed within the first extractor port for delivering the first density slurry.
Abstract:
Provided is an adhesive composition suitable for fortifying panel joints in construction, the adhesive composition comprising a polymeric binder, filler and thickener, wherein the binder is selected from acrylic acid polymers, acrylic acid copolymers, alkyds, polyurethanes, polyesters, epoxies, and combinations thereof and wherein the viscosity of the composition is the range from 100 to 200 Brabender Units and density is in the range from about 7.5 lbs/gal to about 10 lbs/gal. Methods of using the adhesive composition in wall assembly are provided as well.
Abstract:
A method for making geopolymer cementitious binder compositions for cementitious products such as concrete, precast construction elements and panels, mortar, patching materials for road repairs and other repair materials, and the like is disclosed. The geopolymer cementitious compositions of some embodiments are made by mixing a synergistic mixture of thermally activated aluminosilicate mineral, calcium sulfoaluminate cement, a calcium sulfate and a chemical activator with water.
Abstract:
Compositions and methods for reducing the impact of hard water on gypsum board foaming are provided. The compositions include adding a foam to water and a calcined slurry. The foam includes water, dispersed air and a surfactant. Surfactants for use include a hydrophobic portion having an alkyl chain length distribution of about 20% to about 60% C8 chains; about 20% to about 60% C10 chains; about 14% to about 36% C12 chains and about 2% to about 20% C14 chains and also having a hydrophilic portion having about 0.2 to 3.0 ethoxy groups.
Abstract:
A joint compound tool including a body having a first end, an opposing second end and a handle. A blade portion is attached to the first end of the body and a lid opener is movably attached to the second end of the body, where the lid opener is movable between a storage position adjacent to the handle and an operative position away from the handle.
Abstract:
Disclosed are product (e.g., panels), slurry, and methods relating to a pregelatinized starch having a mid-range viscosity (i.e., from about 20 centipoise to about 700 centipoise), and an extruded pregelatinized starch.
Abstract:
A wooden frame truss with enhanced fire resistance is provided and includes an upper chord extending along a longitudinal axis, a lower chord disposed below the upper chord and extending along a vertically displaced, parallel axis, a plurality of supports attached between the upper and lower chords, and a plurality of metal gusset plates securing the supports to the chords. At least one wallboard batten strip is attached to an underside of the lower chord, the strip being constructed and arranged so that the strip defines a ledge extending from each side of the lower chord.
Abstract:
The invention is directed to a joint tape for finishing a joint between boards comprising a nonwoven substrate that does not swell substantially in the presence of water. The invention further provides a method of finishing a joint between boards comprising (i) applying a joint tape of the invention to a joint between boards by embedding the joint tape in a first coat of joint compound, (ii) applying a second coat of joint compound over the tape, wherein step (ii) is carried out before the joint tape and joint compound applied in step (i) have substantially dried, and optionally (iii) applying a third fill or finish coat of joint compound over the tape, wherein step (iii) is carried out before the joint tape and second coat have substantially dried.
