Abstract:
A combustion system for use in the steckel mill provides for the controlled mixing of combustible fluids to each furnace incorporated in the steckel mill while also harnessing at least a portion of the heat developed during the operation of the mill to increase the overall operation efficiency of the steckel mill. The invention also contemplates enhancing the manner in which combustion products are drawn from the furnaces which also aids in recovering heat developed during the operation of the steckel mill as well as improving the operation of the overall combustion system. These features are obtained by providing a supply system for the air or other combustible gas delivered to each of the steckel mill coil furnaces and to direct at least a portion of the flow of this combustion gas through at least one recuperator that is in-line with an exhaust duct associated with the steckel mill. In this manner, this portion of the intake combustion gas is pre-heated prior to delivery to the various burners of the coil furnaces which results in an increased overall operation efficiency of the furnaces and steckel mill. A controlled rate of auxiliary combustion gas is also supplied to burners of the furnaces for mixing with a combustible gas, such as natural gas, in order to maintain a desired stoichiometric combustion ratio.
Abstract:
By rolling a slab with a thickness of 80 mm or less in a plant including a continuous casting machine and a hot strip rolling mill directly combined with each other, low-speed rolling can be achieved while suppressing a drop of the strip temperature and the occurrence of scales. After a slab 2 cast by a continuous casting machine 1 and being 80 mm or less thick is heated and descaled, it is rough-rolled into a bar with a thickness of 20 to 60 mm by a roughing mill 7 constructed as a 4H-twin mill. After being heated and descaled again, the bar is finish-rolled by finishing mills 19 to 21, each of which employs small-diameter work rolls having a diameter not larger than 500 mm, into a thin plate with a thickness in the range of 1.6 mm to 15 mm or a thick plate with a thickness in the range of 3 mm to 40 mm. The rolling speed on the delivery side of the finishing mills 19 to 21 is set to be as low as 350 m/minute or less with a result of small production scale, and the plant length is set to be not longer than 100 m with a result of small plant space.
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing hot rolled steel strip from continuously cast input stock in successive work steps includes adjusting strip-shaped input stock after solidification to hot rolling temperature and introducing the input stock into a multiple-stand rolling mill for rolling into finished strip. The rolled stock is heated by an inductive heating unit at least between the first stand and the second stand.
Abstract:

Abstract:
A steel plate having a plated layer on the upper and lower surfaces thereof to be processed into a battery can which is cylindrical and open in one end thereof by drawing and ironing processing. The plated steel plate has more than 1.2 as a Lankford value (r) which is a width deformation degree in a lengthwise direction thereof/a thickness deformation degree in the lengthwise direction thereof, a width deformation degree in a widthwise direction thereof/a thickness deformation degree in the widthwise direction thereof, a width deformation degree in an oblique direction thereof/a thickness deformation degree in the oblique direction thereof. In-plane anisotropy .DELTA.r which is the difference among the Lankford values (r) is set to be less than .+-.0.15 so that the elongation coefficient of the plated steel plate in lengthwise, widthwise, and oblique directions is almost constant, i.e., so that the generation of earring can be prevented in drawing and ironing a sheet comprising the steel plate into the battery can. In order to make the elongation coefficient of the plated steel plate constant in the three directions, a very low carbon steel plate is used. The steel plate is cold-rolled at 80-90 %. The plated layer is allowed to have a granular structure by annealing it after it is plated.
Abstract:
Modular roll apparatus particularly suitable for conveying hot material such as a sheet of steel being processed. Each roll has its own individual water bath and drive mechanism. A water trough isolates the bath from the bearings and drive mechanism for the roll and bathes the underside of the roll to cool it. The entire modular unit can be removed from its operating position and replaced by a similar such unit. A conveyor containing a multiplicity of such units is suitable for conveying hot sheet steel or other hot material in a processing mill.
Abstract:
A method for producing a steel strip which has been cast as a stand in a cooled oscillating continuous chill mould, comprises squeezing the strand emerging from the chill mould until it has a first cross-sectional thickness (40-50 mm), followed by hot rolling the strand until it has a second cross-sectional thickness (2-25 mm). Deviations in the normal path of travel of the strand following hot rolling are corrected by adjusting the thickness to which the strand is subjected during the first squeezing step.
Abstract:
In a continuous process for continuous casting and hot-rolling of metal sheet, off-line storage of a slab takes place in a thermally insulated storage chamber located alongside a thermally insulated zone through which the slab lengths travel in the production line between a cutter for the slab and the hot-rolling mill train. On stoppage of the hot-rolling mill train, at least one slab length is transferred laterally to the off-line thermally insulated storage chamber. To improve ductility, an induction heating stage is combined with a subsequent temperature-maintaining stage in the furnace for homogenization of temperature within the slab. Both these stages are performed on the slab at its casting thickness.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a compact rolling plant and method for using it to manufacture hot rolled metal strip. The rolling mill and method are capable of rolling both thick and thin slabs with minimum delays between slabs. The complete rolling of a bar or a strip below a critical transformation temperature range may be done at any speed without heat losses in unrolled portions of the strip or bar.
